Has anyone thought about the possibility of Briere+ for Luongo? I know he has injury problems, but could he work on Kesler's wing? I don't think his value is out of reach for Luongo to fetch, but tell me if I'm wrong.

I'm not so worried about his value in a deal as I am about his $6.5M cap hit this year plus two more years. It would make him our highest paid forward and we'd have to figure out how to get the extra $1+M we'd be taking on despite moving Luongo under the cap, when we're trying to lose cap, not take more on.

so was Sturm. He lasted what? 5 games. No one is untouchable.

edit : meant Sturm not Goc

So are you suggesting we can trade Booth to them for him? And possibly that he's going to be worth as much to us as Sturm was to Florida after he failed to stick with us?

Nevermind, don't answer those since I'll explain it this way: if he's not good enough to stick with Florida, why would we want to sign him?

If this team lets go of Sang he will burn this team next year.

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Booth Kesler Briere
Hansen Schroeder Burrows
Higgins Malholtra Lapierre
Raymond, Ebbett

PP1: Sedin Sedin Kesler Edler Garrison
PP2 Hansen Briere Burrows Bieksa Hamhuis

He could also play center while Kesler is gone, then move to the wing.

Sedin Sedin Kassian
Booth Briere Higgins
Hansen Schroeder Burrows
Raymond Malholtra Lapierre
Weise, Ebbett

Kassian takes Kesler's net front on the 1st PP.

I didn't think it was possible, but that line-up is EVEN SOFTER then last years...

Honestly, I have a hard time believing the Leafs will give up a center without a center going back. Leafs are thin enough as it as down the middle. I think that's why I like the idea of a 3 way deal working with Philly since they are loaded with centers

Hey guys just had a glimpse at the new schedule and Imo it might be a good idea to hang on to both goalies for this shortened season. We have games like almost every other day! Unless we get a solid backup goaltender in a Luongo deal we should keep both guys.. Schneider is gonna get burned out if he is expected 2 play most of those games in such a condensed period just saying..

You don't say. Hope Smurf47 reads this and THINKS...

I have a feeling this is going to end up being a three way deal.

By the way MOU has just been signed, Luongo's gone by midnight? :bigblush:

I have a feeling it will end up no deal...

If Lu goes to TOR I could see the deal being something like:

TOR:
Luongo, Schroeder, Rodin and Sauve

VAN:
Kadri, Kulimen, Bozak, Ashton, Holzer

I know if a trade goes down with TOR we arent going to get exactly this but this is what id be happy with for both sides

I want Kadri, Bozak, Gardiner, and Franson for Luongo and a 1st. It's not completely out of reach.

You might want to let Dean Lombardi know that veteran players don't have the value of these young prospects...

Actually Lombardi had alot of young players play huge roles for his cup team, and none of those players other than Rielly are prospects, Gardiner, Couturier, Simmonds, Cobrun aren't prospects. And they aren't in play for us.

I don't understand why we would be exchanging so many young players. I doubt that many players would be exchanged.

Anyone else getting the impression luongo is taking this extremely lightly? Does he know something we don't?

he is a true professional and is able to look beyond the drama stirred by media of major canadian hockey cities. I'm very impressed by how much he has grown mentally since he was traded here in vancouver. It would be a loss for us to lose such a personality in the dressing room.

well, after years of being in the center of media scrutiny, first as the saviour, then the captain, then the whipping boy from playoff exits, this is like a paid vacation. There's no pressure, the trade decisions are (mostly) out of his hands, and he's not expected to be the starter here.

Ironically, if he does wind up playing games for Van this year, he might have his best seasonal start since coming here.

My prediction :P

To Toronto:

2013 2nd

To Vancouver:
Bozak

Gardiner

If I was Toronto, I'd offer Gardiner for Luongo straight up, or Luongo for Kadri and Bozak. I wouldn't pay a penny more unless Vancouver agreed to take back some of the cap hit.

Luongo's long-term $5M+ contract is a burden, even though he's a good goalie. Salary cap room is king and if the Canucks can't see that, I would say spend $10M on your goalies and have fun. Bear in mind for a couple million more per year you would have Nash / Weber on your team, or an extra guy sitting behind Schneider doing nothing but providing insurance...............it's not rocket science.

I keep seeing this Kadri/Bozak combination - why would either team want to do that?

At this point I'd that and try to squeeze a 2nd out of them. I don't see us getting a more talented prospect out of anyone else. Seems to be developing slower but we don't have anyone with high end skill in our prospect pool. I think it's worth the gamble considering we also fill our interim 2nd line center role with bozak if niether of the kids take charge at camp. Who knows maybe Kadri finds his game this year.

I see it being a better option than Weiss. He may be a better option at 2nd C but he most likely walks next year and bozak can certainly patch the hole untill kes is back.

At least going the Toronto route we get a shot at a high end talented young prospect. May not be a sure bet but the reward could be huge and long lasting.

Toronto is feeling the pinch and I think they know they have to give significantly more than Florida or gillis sends him home out of respect. I think he's the best player that is easiest to let go for them. They gotta give something and that's pretty close to what gillis asked for, good prospect, roster player, 1st round pick. TO cant afford to give a 1st especially after giving away a 7th overall 22 yr old. So they counter with a 2nd.

Kadri bozak 2nd

I think it seems totally reasonable from both sides. They get their playoff bound goalie without putting too many holes in their lineup. We wash our hands clean of this mess, get a talented kid to work with and solve our center dilemma. I would be all over that if I was Nonis and Gillis.
