One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

Can't remember the last time you started a positive thread, or have you?

Our defensive depth is fine. We have Connauton who will up and ready in a few years. If we are looking at this year, we have Alberts who is a huge physical guy who can shut down people. And the newly acquired Derek Joslin who is a mobile defenseman with some offensive ability and has a great shot.

We'll be fine.

We have the same depth as last year except this year we have a more sturdy defender in garrison.

You're last two posts have been completely worthless.

This is comical of you hahaha connauton is not ready to compete in the NHL and what you said about Alberts and joslin that's hilarious since when does Alberts shutdown people? As for joslin the guy looked brutal in the Ahl.. Canucks do need to get more depth or else we won't go to far.

Salo is replaced by Garrison who is younger, has a good shot, and is more physical. What we lost is Rome. Ouch! We're doomed!!!

This thread should be about Eddie Lack. He's all the defensive depth the team needs!

Hamhuis-Bieksa
Edler-Garrison
Ballard-Tanev
Alberts

I think we need 2 more depth defenseman to replace the one and only Aaron Rome. Or if the Sauve's and Connauton's of the world impressed the management enough, they'll be the depth.

2 negative threads in short order, your really on a roll.

Ballard and Tanev are a proven pair in my mind and will be much better than whatever we had last year, both will make each other better.

If last years playoffs are any indication, that pair will be able to handle bigger minutes that our 3rd pair has in the past, which will ease the work load for the top 2 pairs.

I look at it the other way actually I think our depth has gotten stronger, this is how I look at it.

New - Old

1st) Hamhuis + Bieksa = Hamhuis + Bieksa

2nd) Edler + Garrison > Edler + Salo (Garrison is bigger & younger than Salo, Edler has continued to mature)

3rd) Ballard + Tanev > Ballard + Rome

I think Tanev will be just fine, especially playing in a system that he understands with a line mate like KB4. Chicago was a waste of time for him and indeed Kassian. The system was non existent with little consistency of selection or tactical astuteness shown by Arneil.

I look forward to Tanev hitting the bell from the get go.

Ps unlike many on here who want Ballard gone I see the Tanev - Ballard combo as a team that will get better and better with time and might even start to be an optional 2rd line in an emergency.

Rome WAS a loss imo. Maybe not one that dooms us but he had pushback and I never thought he let us down.

Hamhuis ,Garrison and Tanev are all defensive D men.

What the problem is and continues to be is offensive d men.

Eddy can be a superstar, but is not.

Bieksa is hit and miss and would be a liability without Dan.

Keith has offensive capabilities much higher than Kevin, but plays third line minutes.

ok.... but how many teams have more depth

plus we still have cap space to add depth at the deadline and if Luongo is traded, we will even more cap space depending on the return

Would have to agree to disagree on this topic...I actually see the Canucks defense corps as the team's strength, and as one of the deepest in the league. The team's weakness, in my opinion is scoring depth up front, but that's a whole other subject.

Assuming the pairings are Bieksa-Hamhuis/Edler-Garrison/Ballar-Tanev, this is pretty deep, well balanced and versatile, subject to the top six staying healthy. I see having Alberts as the 7th man as a good option (though it would be nice to see him play with more anger when he's in the line up). The top six is mobile, has decent size, demonstrated defensive responsibility, and offensive capabilities, so yah, I see this is a strength.
