OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Down by the River - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I wonder if the Flames fans have their version of Magic Numbers: the number of NHL teams that the Flames cannot mathematically catch.

This thread is waaaay to premature to be created and pinned. I have a feeling we'll be in the middle of the pack this year during the regular season.

Seriously, this thread just reminds me of why other teams' fans can't stand us. Way too cocky to assume we'll need it.

Its people like you that takes a positive thing and turns it negative. Just because you havent been getting some happy times lately doesnt mean you can criticize a thread that has one objective: to keep an eye on elimination statuses of various NHL teams. Its a yearly tradition, so keep it to yourself.

I actually think it's quite interesting to see how things progress over a longer period. Remember the thread isn't about coming first in the West- it's about finishing above the non-playoff teams and the results required. We've just been lucky over the last couple years that it's been exclusively for the West/Presidents that we refer to the chart.

By the way learn how to spell SHIRIKOV who is this shirakov

Amazingly on his first shift Kassian would have had a breakaway if Kesler knew how to pass. And he still got switched with Weiss. And note it is "Weiss" not "Wise".

Magic Number Charts have been updated!
PHX, COL, LAK, DET, MTL, NYI, PHI, NYR, WPG, WSH and CAR Fall 1 Point!
NSH Falls 0.5 Points!

Green Highlighting stands for achievable status. The number showed under X, Y, Z, P means the number of points required to clinch that position.

Just curious, why don't the teams with 2 points in the West have X as an achievable status?

There are three teams in the West that have not played a game yet, it is based on the bottom 7 teams PTSP that determines the eligibility to make the playoffs with an 'X'. Remember, I do not work with tie-breakers, so the numbers are based on having no tie-breaker. Look at the bottom 7 teams in the West, 5 94 PTSP, and one 95 PTSP, the next team with the lowest PTSP has 96. Thus any team needs 97 Points to make the playoffs, or 97 Minus points already achieved.

In order for it to be achievable, the team's number in the 'X' column must be = to or < than the PTSR column to be green.

ANA has 2 points, they can get 94 more points which equals 96. Out of the bottom 7 that are below 8th place naturally, the highest possible points that team can make is 96. thus, a team must get 97 points to clinch a playoff spot which is impossible without a tie-breaker at the moment.
