Avicii
Dan Murphy @sportsnetmurph I'm hearing former #blackhawks #wild #oilers d-man Cam Barker may get a try out at #canucks training camp to earn a 7 or 8 blueline spot.
LUU4LIFE
Not bad as a 7th/8th dman
hockeyville88
That would be a good one. Barker was so highly touted after being on the WJHC gold medal winning teams Seems like he deserves a chance to prove himself

xWCMx
Why? The guy couldn't even make it on the Texas Stars of the AHL, they let him walk after a 25 game tryout this year. If I remember correctly, he's also had a couple of ankle injuries that have pretty much all but destroyed his lateral movement. Maybe for the 6-8th spot on the wolves, but that's about it, IMO

King Heffy
More competition is a good thing. He has the talent to play at the NHL level, just never put it all together. Low risk, medium reward.
unknown33429
Seems like a low risk/ high reward move. I never understood what happened to this guy...he showed so much promise early.
-Vintage Canuck-
I wouldn't mind him here. It adds more depth to our defence since we have been battling with injuries on the blueline for years now and with departure of Rome. He does have size and strength, but the problem is he is Inconsistent.
zombieksa
He may not be fantastic, but hes big bodied and has shown an ability to log big minutes, even +/- on the Oilers last season in 25 games. Still.. I think I prefer Alberts as the big bodied plug D
Tortorella's Rant
Absolutely. I think it would be foolish to pass up on a guy like that if you can at least offer him a tryout. A big dude @ 6'3 220. A few very solid seasons: 40pts in 68 games. 14 in 51. 18 in 45. And he's by no means over the hill @ 26 years old. Half this board is older than the guy.... Well, maybe not. Zoolander
He was a super high pick...I'd be actually pretty happy if this were true. Maybe he just needs a change of scenery. A city's atmosphere and a team that will accept you can do a lot for a player's confidence in the NHL. He's a big-bodied defenceman who could re-kindle his career and has no down-side since it's just a tryout.
stonecoldstevebernier
Nothing to be lost from giving him a tryout. If he performs well and impresses the staff, he's added on a cheap one-year deal. If he disappoints, we continue on as normal. Wouldn't mind seeing him on the lower end of the D chart in case of injuries (which could be devastating in such a short season).
Rey
Cam Barker has the physical tools to become a big player in the NHL. Too bad, he's slow, has low hockey IQ, and lacks dedication. Fix 1/3 of those problems and he's back in the NHL. Fix 2/3 and he's in your top 4. Fix 3/3 of those problems. You got top defense man. Good luck. Hugemanskost
There is absolutely no risk in inviting Barker to camp. If he performs, that is, plays physically, doesn't turn the puck over and shows some mobility, Barker could be a great pick up. Do it.
Millerdraft
AFAIK he's had some very big struggles with D&A abuse. I like giving those guys a 2nd chance like we did last year w/ Todd Fedoruk. Good luck, Cam.

Pears
I wouldn't mind Barker at all. Him and Vandermeer would be solid for depth on D.
