Despite Conservative Support, Petition to Deport Piers Morgan Still Doesn't Have Enough Signatures

By Connor Simpson | The Atlantic Wire – 4 hrs ago

http://news.yahoo.co...-213316378.html

Maybe the traditional conservative media power brokers are starting to falter. Despite support from some of the big names, a White House petition to deport Piers Morgan over his strong stance on gun control in the wake of the Sandy shooting still doesn't have enough signatures.

The petition popped up Saturday afternoon. Morgan has been vocal on his show, and his Twitter account, about the need for new gun control legislation in the U.S. since Sandy Hook. Most notably, Morgan generated headlines the other day for asking Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, "you're an incredibly stupid idiot, aren't you?"

So, yeah, that happened.

And then this White House petition showed up. It was apparently created yesterday, but wasn't really discovered until this morning:

British Citizen and CNN television host Piers Morgan is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.

It got tweets of support from the likes of Ann Coulter:

Problem: Gun owners don't like to be on lists.Solution: There are lots of reasons to want to deport Piers Morgan - 1.usa.gov/T6fMZVAnn Coulter (@AnnCoulter) December 22, 2012

And Matt Drudge:

WHITE HOUSE PETITION CALLS FOR DEPORTATION OF PIERS MORGAN AFTER GUN RANT... drudge.tw/VYmtbC— DRUDGE REPORT (@DRUDGE_REPORT) December 22, 2012

And Drudge gave it an ALL CAPS billing near the top of his website, too:

And yet, the petition still only has a little more than 8,000 signatures. Drudge has 450,000 Twitter followers. Coulter has 300,000 followers, too. Drudge's website is one of the most notorious traffic hoses on the entire Internet. It stands to some reason that the petition shouldn't have had a hard time filling out the full 25,000 signatures required to generate a White House response.
Maybe it's because the idea of deporting him for speaking out against one Constitutional amendment violates another very-importent Constitutional, as Morgan pointed out:

Ironic U.S. gun rights campaign to deport me for 'attacking 2nd Amendment rights' - is my opinion not protected under 1st Amendment rights?— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) December 22, 2012

He's not attacking the constitution. He's attacking incredibly stupid idiots. Unfortunately for him, these incredibly stupid idiots are standing behind the constitution.

What he hasn't factored in is that taking guns away from 'merican gun nut militias and gangbangers, let lone soccer moms and hunters, presents a truly dangerous problem for the government. You can try to get them to register their guns too, but that ain't easy either.

Still, you'd think they should do... Something... Other than add more guns.

Well, we live in a trailer

at the edge of town

You never see us

'cause we don't come around.

We got twenty five rifles

just to keep

the population down.

But we need you now,

and that's why

I'm hangin' 'round.

So you be good to me

and I'll be good to you,

And in this land of conditions

I'm not above suspicion

I won't attack you,

but I won't back you.

Well, it's so good to be here,

asleep on your lawn.

Remember your guard dog?

Well, I'm afraid

that he's gone.

It was such a drag

to hear him

whining all night long.

Yes, that was me with the doves,

setting them free

near the factory

Where you built your computer,

I hope you get the connection,

'cause I can't take

the rejection

I won't deceive you,

I just don't believe you.

Well, I'm a barrel of laughs,

with my carbine on

I keep 'em hoppin',

till my ammunition's gone.

But I'm still not happy,

I feel like

there's something wrong.

I got the revolution blues,

I see bloody fountains,

And ten million dune buggies

comin' down the mountains.

I was watching his show the other day and I have to say he was pretty brutal on the guest he had on, representing the gun lobby.

Good for him. It's about time someone had the balls to take these guys on.

Why is it that people always pick and choose which rights they want to defend based on their political affiliations. For example in this case these Republicans are acting like they care so much about rights and the Constitution. But deporting him for expressing an opinion would go against the First Amendment. No logic.

1,796 signatures need by January 13th, they will easily make those and the WH will be forced to react to the petition, most likely doing nothing, but symbolic I guess.

Its funny the petition was made Friday, the MSM was criticizing it Saturday, and its now almost complete on Sunday. I think they're attempt backfired.

Because he is non-US citizen.. It is nothing about free speech. Other countries have kicked people out for criticizing their countries.

Not according to SCOTUS which has clearly stated that neither the First Amendment nor the Fifth Amendment "acknowledges any distinction between citizens and resident aliens." per Kwong Hai Chew v. Colding, 344 U.S. 590, 598 n.5 (1953)

For more than a century, SCOTUS has recognized that the Equal Protection Clause is "universal in [its] application, to all persons within the territorial jurisdiction, without regard to differences of ... nationality." per Yick Wo v. Hopkins, 118 U.S. 356, 369 (1886)

The Court has repeatedly stated that "the Due Process Clause applies to all 'persons' within the United States, including aliens, whether their presence here is lawful, unlawful, temporary, or permanent." per Zadvydas v. Davis, 533 U.S. 678, 693 (2001); see also Mathews, 426 U.S. at 77 (holding that due process applies to all aliens in the United States, even those whose presence is "unlawful, involuntary, or transitory")

Well there you go.

Thousands sign U.S. petition to deport Piers Morgan over gun comments

(Reuters) - More than 66,000 people have signed a petition that they posted on the White House website demanding that British CNN talk show host Piers Morgan be deported over comments he made on air about gun control.

Morgan last week lambasted pro-gun guests on his show, after the December 14 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, where a gunman shot dead 26 people, including 20 children.

"We demand that Mr. Morgan be deported immediately for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens," the petition said.

The petition, started on December 21 by a man identified as Kurt N. from Austin, Texas, accuses Morgan of subverting the second amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the right to bear arms.

U.S. citizens can file a petition on the White House website, whitehouse.gov, if they collect at least 25,000 signatures within 30 days. The White House is then obliged to issue a response.

the guy is just pointing out that not everyone in America that has the right to own a gun should be allowed to.
I agree just because you have not had a criminal history or a recorded/documented history of mental illness does not mean you should be allowed to own and use a gun.
they should have a test of ones ability to use common sense before issuing a license to carry a weapon....
but the same could be said for driving a vehicle (ironically is harder to obtain a license for then to own a gun) and for the right to have children....
but it will never happen.
stupid people will keep having stupid children who will keep buying bigger and badder guns and become emotionally unstable and shoot up kids in a school or people in a movie theater etc..because they think they have a right to make a name for themselves and one up the last person to do what they did.

and gun control does not mean gun elimination.
funny thing is i am not for gun control but i am for selective licensing of gun owners.
a gun registry does not work don't do that.
but just because you are 18 years old have a valid ID, no history (recorded history) of mental illness or no criminal record does not mean you should have the right to own a gun.

I am not against the elimination of guns from citizens because you never know what will happen in the future and if there ever is a revolution and a fight against the government or an invasion the people need to be able to protect themselves.
plus some people do still hunt and use them for non confrontational uses.
but really who needs to own an assault rifle other then the bad ass factor and the mine is bigger badder faster then yours mentality , are you gonna go kill a deer with that.....? mind you it would be pretty awesome when the Zombies attack..

but other then that i would sign the petition to get him out of my country no matter what the reason that guy is a tool.

CNN’s Piers Morgan Hits Back At Critics, Threatens To Leave US Over Lax Gun Laws

By NELLIE ANDREEVA | Deadline.comSun, Dec 30, 2012 11:58 AM PST

http://tv.yahoo.com/news/cnn-piers-morgan-hits-back-critics-threatens-leave-195818394.html

Defiant CNN host Piers Morgan added more fire to his public fight with gun supporters in a column published in the Daily Mail.

Morgan has been at odds with gun advocates since the Dec. 14 Sandy Hook massacre, which prompted the British journalist to launch an aggressive pro-gun control campaign on his show, clashing with gun lobbyists, including his verbal spat with Gun Owners of America head Larry Pratt whom Morgan told on the air, “You are an unbelievably stupid man.” Morgan’s gun control crusade led to a White House petition by gun advocates asking for Morgan’s deportation because of his “hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment.” The petition has garnered more than 91,000 signatures to date, prompting Morgan to quip on Twitter, “Still only 90,000 Americans have signed the White House petition to deport me. That leaves 310,910,00 who presumably want me to stay.”

He went further in his column. ”I will not stop in my own efforts to keep the gun-control debate firmly in people’s minds, however much abuse I’m subjected to,” he wrote. Morgan recalled being editor of the Daily Mirror during the worst British school shooting in 1996 when 16 five-year-olds were killed in Scotland’sDunblane. It led to the implementation of strict gun control laws which Morgan credits with the country’s extremely low number of gun murders a year (35). He compares that to his stay in the US since 2007 when he first came to the country as a judge on America’s Got Talent. “Six of America’s 12 worst-ever mass shootings have occurred since 2007″ to “a woeful, shameful virtual silence” by politicians under pressure from gun lobbyists.

As for the petition to extradite him, “I can spare those Americans who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting me,” Morgan wrote. “Although I love the country as a second home and one that has treated me incredibly well, I would, as a concerned parent first – and latterly, of a one-year-old daughter who may attend an American elementary school like Sandy Hook in three years’ time – seriously consider deporting myself.”

Morgan may not have to resort to self-exile as President Barack Obama today declared tightening gun regulations, including bans on assault weapons and high-capacity bullet magazines, a top priority for his second term. Of course Morgan and his softly-rated primetime show have to pass muster with incoming CNN boss Jeff Zucker who is expected to shake up the network’s lineup in pursuit of a ratings turnaround.

At least Larry King delivered every single interview and section with class. All I see from Piers Morgan is the typical tabloid-esque reporting style that is so reminiscent of the Sun (UK) and the Daily Star.

Pure childish banter from Morgan; can't wait till he gets bumped from CNN's top viewing times into a death slot.

At very least Morgan would leave on his own cognizance. No public journalist/crony/pundit should get away with belittling the constitution in the way he has without enduring an extensive amount of being metaphorically dragged through the mud. Remember, this a-hole defended Rupert Murdoch and the media's blatant defiance of privacy during the phone hacking scandal.. being a beneficiary of such privacy violations openly showing how he broke into people's phones. Not a surprise in the least bit that he has no respect for constitutional rights.

Also, for Obama to get the gun restrictions he wants, he needs a Republican controlled House to go along with it. Republicans will cave on the fiscal end (an easy task for Bush), but on the gun issue? I doubt it.

BAD MOVE!!!

BAD FING MOVE

HAHAHA ANOTHER INJURED MORON ON OUR TEAM

HE WILL JOIN US IN 2019

Benning will be fired next year. Hope he enjoys screwing around for a few months. I just cant believe this. Another injured BC player. We just got rid of garrison. Seems like the canucks and linden just wanted any BC born player. Doesn't matter if hes good or not. We don't need another Linden to get us to game 7 of the Stanley cup and lose. We need someone to win us a cup.

5 million a year for Vrbata? 6 million for Miller? Kesler for Bonino and 24th instead of 10th pick or one of their top prospects? Garrison for scraps?

ive already lost faith in JB. Ive never EVER had this bad of a feeling about management.

White House response:

White House responds to 'Deport Piers Morgan' petition

Breaking news during tonight's edition of Piers Morgan Tonight: On the heels of Morgan's fiery interview with Alex Jones, the man who started the petition to deport the CNN host, the White House addressed the petition.

The official White House statement, via spokesman Jay Carney:

The White House responds to all petitions that cross the threshold and we will respond to this one. In the meantime, it is worth remembering that the freedom of expression is a bedrock principle in our democracy."

The petition to deport Morgan has gained more than 100,000 signatures, well over the 25,000 required to warrant an official White House response.

The guy is passionate about controlling gun violence which I can respect. Too bad he's trying to make a country better that is too ignorant to acknowledge what should really be done to protect its citizens.

This guy Alex Jones started a petition to get Piers Morgan departed from the States because of his views on guns. Alex Jones is an absolute nutbag. He was on Peirs' show today, and absolutely lost it.

Alex Jones was not the first person to start it; besides, there's another thread on this already - http://forum.canucks...ugh-signatures/
