Yahoo News exclusive: Trump releases birth certificate to Bill Maher, demands $5M

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Lookout – 6 hrs ago

http://news.yahoo.co...-151304482.html

Donald Trump has placed himself in the middle of another controversy involving a birth certificate—this time his own.

In a letter obtained by Yahoo News, the real estate mogul and de facto leader of last year's "birther" movement against President Barack Obama sent a copy of his New York City birth certificate to comedian Bill Maher, who earlier this week made a Trump-like demand to see it.

On Monday's "Tonight Show With Jay Leno," Maher said he would donate $5 million to the charity of Trump’s choice (Maher suggested Hair Club for Men, among others) if the "Celebrity Apprentice" host could prove he is not the "spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan." Maher was mocking Trump's much-publicized announcement in October that he would donate $5 million to charity if Obama would release his college records.

On Tuesday, a lawyer for Trump sent the letter to Maher with the birth certificate attached, asking the "Real Time" host to make good on his late-night offer:

Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump's birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan. Please remit the $5 million to Mr. Trump immediately and he will ensure that the money be donated to the following five charities in equal amounts: Hurricane Sandy Victims, The Police Athletic League, The American Cancer Society, The March of Dimes, and The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

In October, Trump announced he had "something very, very big concerning the president of the United States"—something he said could "possibly" change the election—leading to speculation that the 66-year-old might have unearthed scandalous information about Obama.

"Barack Obama is the least transparent president in the history of this country," Trump said in a video shot from his New York office and uploaded to YouTube. "I'm very honored to have gotten him to release his long-form birth certificate or whatever it may be.

"I have a deal for the president," Trump continued. "If Barack Obama opens up and gives his college records and applications and if he gives his passport applications and records, I will give to a charity of his choice—inner-city children in Chicago, American Cancer Society, AIDS research, anything he wants—a check immediately for $5 million."

Obama was unfazed. On "The Tonight Show," Obama joked to Leno that the bad blood between him and the "Celebrity Apprentice" star "dates back to when we were growing up together in Kenya."
Trump thrust himself into the spotlight again on election night, firing off a series of tweets after Obama's victory over Mitt Romney.

"Well, back to the drawing board!" Trump tweeted shortly after several networks, including Fox News, called Ohio in the president's favor, sealing the win. "We can't let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!

"Lets fight like hell and stop this great and disgusting injustice!" Trump continued. "The world is laughing at us. This election is a total sham and a travesty. We are not a democracy!"

A representative for Maher did not immediately return a request for comment. On Monday, though, he told Leno he did not want to start a war with The Donald.

“I’m not looking for a feud with Donald Trump,” Maher said.

See Trump's full letter, including birth certificate, below:

January 8, 2013
Mr. Bill Maher
Real Time with Bill Maher
CBS Studios
7800 Beverly Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Dear Mr. Maher:
I represent Mr. Donald J. Trump. I write on his behalf to accept your offer (made during the Jay Leno Show on January 7, 2013) that Mr. Trump prove he is not the "spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan."
Regards,
Scott S. Balber

Eh, honestly, I'm on Trumps side, which feels foreign and weird. Maher had no reason to call him out, and by making such an outrageous public remark, he's on the hook. Maybe not for the 5m. I doubt Bill Maher has 5m to donate to charity. But he's going to look bad by backing out of a charity pledge, even if he claims it was an obvious parody. If you don't believe me, look at the backlash that Penny Arcade sent Jack Thompson's way when he said he would make a donation then backed out. Of course, no one is especially fond of Jack Thompson to begin with, but I don't know who is championing Bill Maher in any popularity contests.

So yeah. Trump is and will always be a doofus. But if someone said that to me on National TV, I'd put the ball back into his court and make him the chump, which is exactly what Trump has done now. Why would you sit by and take that when you COULD serve someone their ass publicly? Maher will go down like a villain, and if Trump is smart, he'll donate something to all 5 charities and look like a prince for doing so. Lord knows dude could use some image rehab.

The birth certificate still does not prove that Trump's mother was not impregnated by an ape.

If this were true, it would actually work in Trump's favour as knowing that he is the son of an orangutan would actually mediate a lot of the stupidity that has blossomed from his mouth.

Both Bill Maher and Trump are idiots. I actually hope Trump wins, not for Trumps sake, but for the sake of the listed charities.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

This should be made a poll whether Maher will pay up or not. Unless I'm the only one who thinks Maher will pay up.

everyone hates Trump! But sometimes jerks are right too.

I sincerely doubt Maher will come through. I highly suspect that he'll back out, and Trump will make a big fuss about it, and probably reference Offer and Acceptance as his grounds, in the sense that Maher made a legitimate offer publicly to Trump and, having fulfilled it, would be required by law to offer his end up. Of course, it will come down to whether or not you consider this parody, but I think the one thing we can all agree on is that Bill Maher is a tool, and he looks like King of the Dicks right now.

How is the 'clown' trying to stay relevant? he got a public challenge from a bigger clown and he backs it up and is now somehow the villain?

After he gets humiliated and his mother disrespected on National television by accusing her of having sex with an Orangutan?

That implies that The Donald was actually relevant at some point in time... and there is no evidence of that.

Maher's New Rules is the funniest commentary on TV .. and for those Maher haters on here .. you do realize you are siding with Donald Trump? .. what a sad state of affairs .. fu**ing hilarious, really ..

POPULAR

Yeah, but you know what's never funny? Promising 5 million dollars to charity and then backing out of it. He could have said anything, but he was trying to be a big man, calling out Trump, who could easily afford that amount, by acting like he's a big shot who could afford to throw 5m all willy nilly. He could have said the joke a million ways, without offering 5m to charities. That is why Maher's a jerkoff here. He could be making this joke to Hitler and he'd still be a bad guy, because bad guys promise to donate millions of dollars to charity and then not deliver. And who is trying to get over here? How is Maher not trying to get his name in the headlines by making an outlandish claim he could never hope to back up like this? Maher is trying to get over on Trump for his own benefit, and I hope someone makes him eat crow here. There's a lot of good that could be done from this, and if you're throwing things around like that on better shows than yours, in the desperate hope that someone will bother to watch your show, then you're doing it for publicity, and taunting charities for publicity is just about the worst thing I can think of, short of going right off the deep end.

Like, I get that Trump is a tool, but how can you hate someone so much that you abandon reason completely? Say what you will about Trump, he would have been man enough to give the donation if Obama had called him out on it. It's just poor form on Mahers part, and no amount of Donald Trump being a douche excuses going out of your way on Television to mock someone (and their mother) and then cap it all off by offering a phony donation to charities. That's wrong.

Was he joking or being serious? I just watched the clip on Leno. I think he owes Trump $5 mil for charity. It was'nt funny either. but maybe it's funny because Trump is a white rich guy and it's only demographic that can be made fun of otherwise you're a racist. Imagine if someone made fun of Obama looking like a monkey? Ya big chuckles I'm sure...Now, I kinda like Both these guys I watch Bill Mahers show and have watched the apprentice and well Trump is always in the news he is a great self promoter but i don't agree with either of them 100%.

No, of course it wasn't a joke. Because everyone knows when you challenge someone to do a ridiculously easy thing for a ridiculous amount of money, it's for real.

I don't know if it's been updated but last i saw Mahers net worth was $23 Million, 5 million is nearly a quarter of his net worth if that's accurate it's not like it's an insignificant amount of money for him.

To touch, I will admit that I assumed Maher would be worth, at absolute most, 12-15m, which would make that a significant donation. Even if his net worth is 25m, that's still a large chunk of your retirement, and it has to be liquid assets that you can immediately move. Net worth can take so, so many forms.

I know he's a comedian, and I know it was probably a joke, and I do know he hasn't declined yet. If he pays up, I'll come eat crow. That's not the first time I've said that here, and I'm a man of my word when I'm wrong. All I am saying is, from a purely objective standpoint, if you make a claim on national television that you will donate money to charity, you are automatically a villain if you don't. It's not about Trump to me. I find that character laughable, and it's a huge indictment of the American banking system that people still lend him money. This is all about Maher. Do not, ever, under any circumstances, offer money to charity that you won't pay. If he pays it, good on him for making good, but I'm sincerely doubtful he'll come through with no pressure. To just go on his show tonight and say 'Well, I've been got. Here's 5 checks for $1m' - I just don't see it happening.

But again, I've been wrong. Once or twice. Not picking a fight, just suggesting that it's a trashy thing to joke about. There are people who need money a lot more than Bill Maher.
