They released it for a week in the US at a few select theaters in order to get it eligible for this year's awards.

I still haven't seen a lot of the nominated movies yet, so I'll just include my thoughts for what I can vouch for.

Wreck-It Ralph should hands down win Best Animated. Life of Pi deserves Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects. I could definitely see Argo winning Best Adapted Screenplay, but it wouldn't shock me if it didn't.

Haven't seen a number of the films, so my opinion is not really that informed, but I have a hard time imagining anyone outperforming Christoph Waltz.

OMG we could've had McKeown!

I think Virtanen was a terrible pick given that he's out for 6 months which will hinder his development. You don't pick someone at #6 under that circumstance, along with the fact that he was given a 3/5 IQ (aka he's dumb).

God dammit Benning. WHY VIRTANEN? Terrible move.

Down by the River - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young.

I know that the movie was bad, but I had secretly hoped MIchael Fassbender would sneak in for Prometheus

I've only seen Lincoln from that list. When I left the theate I said, this movie will get a lot of nomnations. It's deserving of many awards. I hear Argo is also a strong contender. For what ever reason I've never liked Ben Affleck so I likely won't see it.

What would be nice is to limit the amount of interest generated in people that play pretend for a living patting each other on the back to perhaps one night a year.

It was good, but that's a bit of a stretch. There were plenty of really good movies released this year.

Best Original Screenplay-Django.
Best Animated Film- Wreck-It Ralph
Best Visual Effects- Life of Pi
Best Cinematography- Life of Pi

Oh well thank you :). My friend and I had a bet going on the nominations. Whoever had most of the nominations correct, they won 20 bucks. It wasn't even close..I won 20 bucks. Now the bet on the winners is up to 50 dollars. I can't wait till Feb 24th!

My friend and I don't get out much..

- I'm predicting Argo wins picture and director.

- I hope Life of Pi gets picture and director

- Hope Phoenix gets best actor, but DDL will grab it.

- Supporting actor, I think and hope De Niro gets it, saving grace behind a junk movie

- Best actress will go to Chastain, but I hope Emmanuelle Riva gets it

- Dunno about supporting actress, but I sure hope it isn't Sally Field

- Song will go to every award show's darling, Adele

the rest I think are a total crapshoot

I really hate musicals. Is there anyone out there who generally dislikes musicals but found Les Miserables a worthwhile film? I'm debating whether or not to watch it.

I seriously wish Argo will win best picture, but its going to be Lincoln. Which will upset me so much cause Argo was definitely the best movie of the year.
