Surprised Calgary has given up on Irving. What a waste.

Because they don't get cap relief from burying players anymore? If they don't buy him out they'll trade him and eat some of his cap, but they won't keep the full hit on the books and have him play for the Marlies.

Accelerated buy-outs carry a full cap hit. No cap relief from buying him out this week.

You're right, I completely forgot about that, my bad! Thanks for pointing it out.

There's a chance that Irving may stay with the club, but I find it strange that the Flames couldn't choose a backup goalie and waive the other one.

Calgary hasn't developed a goaltender to the NHL level since JS Giguere ( who they also gave up on waaay too early)

It's been 13 years and counting now.

They never let them play. Ever. I remember how the Flames tossed out Brian Boucher (who had already proven himself capable) as a possible backup like he was chopped liver.

Miikka can't play forever....and when that day comes, Calgary better hope they have someone who can strap em on and stop the rubber

What are you talking about? The Flames are one of the teams that gets good value contracts

Akim Aliu would be a good fit on the 4th line. Big 6 foot 4 225. Can hit and also drop the gloves if necessary yet has a little scoring upside.

Perfect 4th liner that the Canucks like in a guy who is physical but has enough skill to play a regular shift. Would be an upgrade on Weise.

So far he's shown that he struggles to keep up at AHL pace, hence two demotions to the ECHL 1 assist in 13 games this year in the AHL. He has the size, but I don't think he's good enough for the NHL. IMO Weise has a better scoring upside.

Poor attitude and poor work ethic. The kid had some decent skill and promise but his issues off the ice impeded his progress and growth.

Mirtle says he hears the Isles put in a claim for Tim Connolly. If so, they're hitting the waiver wire hard this year.

Mirtle heard wrong then
