Discounted food, discounted merchandise... FOR THE FIRST 3 GAMES!

Also note they are doing a jersey off out backs the first game and allowing a fan to drop the puck opening night. (Saw another tweet about this)

But wow, if there were some of you that were about to break and buy tickets this season, this would change that for me. I'm going to stand pat like I was.

With the lockout done, the Vancouver Canucks will be selling single-game tickets for their abbreviated NHL season this week, and if you feel like feeding your pro hockey habit, it'll cost you at least $63.75 a pop to attend games at Rogers Arena.
The tickets go on sale at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The first three games will feature cheap food and merchandise discounts, but some fans on twitter say that's not enough.
CKNW listeners have tweeted in concerns about long lineups due to the one-dollar grub, while others want the reduced food prices to stay season-long.
Still others say they're planning on boycotting the team altogether.
Here are some Tweets from CKNW listeners in reaction to the food and merchandise discounts touted by the hockey club:
@WilliamHousty
just for opening weekend?#Cheap #OweTheFans

@_preetgill
Damage Control much?

@sprog
too little, too late.

@carakitten78
that good deal should do that more often least once a mounth

@NucksNiners
that sucks! The Sens are giving away one free game to season ticket holders..

@KevynNobel
the tickets for the first 5 games should be half price too!@VanCanucks otherwise I won't be there for hotdogs pop and merchandise

@kalradia
That'll make it all better. #sad

@TwittleAir
well since half the season's over *eyeroll* how about those prices for the rest of the year?? Fans will pay 4 it in higher season fix

@ChrisWalks1
Still really frustrated by the lockout. Not going to #Canucksgames, so this doesn't affect me at all.

@lynneux
Would rather #Canucks charged full price and donated all the revenue to @CanuckPlace for a few games. They've been hurt by this.

@Stackie41
too bad tickets are so expensive....can't afford it and won't go to a game this year

@EstateVancouver
These discounts should be for the entire season.

@Sinochick
chaos and long lineups to purchase food/merch = angry customers.

@drksky48
Two hour line ups !!!!

@brokensegment
Im never going to a Canucks game again.

@findchico
Boycott.

there was never any chance they would do anything more. the market in vancouver is too strong. discounted tickets would be "nice" but there is no need. fans flock back.

so basically nothing for the fans who don't attend the first 3 games? to get a "make good," i have to fork over $xxx for a ticket and then buy a hot dog at half price :rolleyes:

if you want cheap tickets, tampa has $200 season tickets

That's it?

How about discounted tickets?

I already know how they're going to bring fans back. It will be by retiring Bure's number. No Canucks fan will be able to resist being a part of that moment.

Discount tickets would he a mess.

Pens are doing the discount for merchandise for the entire season.
The Kings however have done the best thing that I have heard of yet, by donating $1 Million to the community.

As for discounted food, have fun wasting even more time in line.

With all the money we make & after hearing MG speak about it and hearing him say they have some things in store, I was honestly expecting something huge, something close to what LA did, this is pretty disappointing maybe the entire season but only for 3 games... Quite disappointing.

I'm not going to hold it against them, but I would have liked something bigger just to show they are sorry, seems like they just expect us to run back cause we are a competitive team, everyone will go back, and they will have my full support, but I'm not gunna spend any money.

I wonder how much of a discount is a discount haha.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

Regardless of how many fans will flock back, for the first 3 days is pretty weak, especially for discounted food and merchandise. The jerseys are already at least a 150% markup, so now they make what, only 100% markup? The food is worse mark up at that too, how much does it cost them for 1 bag of popcorn? With the volume they do, about 20 cents (bag included) yet it is what $7?

I would have MUCH prefered what LA did and have the Canucks do the 3 day cheap out for Fans and and donated a huge chunk to Canuck place, maybe $ for $ what was dontaed (to date) this time last year, since they took such a huge hit from the 50/50

yea i like the pens discount for mech spanning the entire season. i am still hoping and expecting the canucks to donate a very large sum to the Canucks for kids fund and Canucks place.

Discounted food i could care less.

Discount ticket would be horrible, I fear some would buy the ticket cheap than sell it for triple the price. Remember the bieska friendly game? people bought tickets and resell them for 300 to 400 dollars

This only concerns me if I intend on purchasing tickets for this season. As such, I do not.

Good luck to the concession workers who will have to endure extremely long lineups (and therefore impatient fans) and verbal harassment after said impatient fan misses 2 seconds of the second period. Of course, this will be back to status quo come home game 4, so let's sweep this under the rug and pretend like nothing happened.

It's pathetic, really. The Canucks had a real opportunity to display some community leadership with this. Discounts on food that people shouldn't be eating anyway, at all, and discounts on merchandise - effective walking Canuck advertisements - is what they're offering?

Honestly, I would've been happy with a sincere apology from Mr. Aquilini, a la Ron Burkle, but I guess Francesco doesn't feel a need to apologize to his patrons over this. Really a shame. Makes the organization look very Mickey Mouse.

Wow, Over-reaction much ^^^^

Somewhere between this and complete apathy we can find a solution. They could have gave nothing back and a lot would have been content with that. 24.75 tix, pop n dawg does sound pretty good though (thanks inc.)

Still expect something in the form of giving back to the community though

no there wasn't. But compared to what other teams are offering, it's a complete slap in the face. This team makes a tonne of money off of the fans every season. The least they could do is discount everything across the board.

I feel the team should just break even or have a minimal profit this year as far as the season goes, and all that should go back to the fans and into the community. ( a HUGE donation to Canuck Place would be a good start.) They should also really think about selling playoff tickets without the ridiculous mark up this year.

They could have done nothing and it still would have been a sell out. Sure they are sorry to the fans, but realistically, despite all the tough talk about fans not coming back or sticking it to the Canucks... in the end it doesn't matter, the building will still be full every game. They don't even need to offer as little as they are and it would still be enough to get people back by just having hockey back. It's nice of them to do this little, even though they could have gotten away with doing nothing.

They should do as said above and donate a good portion to Canucks place or do something different outside of the game, community time somewhere they don't usually etc. Not that there is a shortage of effort on the organization and players parts already when it comes to this sort of thing.

To help reduce line ups have those walking concession stands people walk up and down the aisle selling hot dogs, popcorn and drinks and even a merchandise guy selling some things. Offer some good service to the fans by serving the food & drinks from the comfort of their seats or set up extra hot dog/popcorn/drink carts. I think the $1 concession food is a super deal; however, this does only benefit those who can actually afford to go to games. Discounted merchandise should be offered in all the Canucks stores and available to all their fans (online store as well ie. extra 20% percent off and free shipping over $50 or something like that). Canucks fans go beyond those that can attend the games.

I agree, discounted food and beverage, pathetic. The club missed the boat on an opportunity to make a meaningful gesture to life long fans of the team. It is not about making up for lost time, because that is not possible. This was a chance for the club to make a true expression of regret and graditude to some of the people who pay their inflated prices and ultimately their salaries.

Cheap hotdogs at a couple games is more than they need to do. its not like someone cut off your water and air for 4 months in order to secure a decade of water and air for everyone...but it is as though a sports entertainment group of companpanies shut down for 4 months in order to secure a decade of entertainment for all their fans.
