PrimeMinisterBure
Mr. Reputable,I believe Hamhuis and Garrison had a desire to come home and play in B.C.. With the gifting of Tanev to this club via Gagner that is three of the top six d men and two of the top four that Gillis performed little to nothing but have to sign their contracts. 5minutesinthebox
Garrisons offensive talents are well documented, but its his defensive play that impresses me. - + 6 on a Florida blue line that featured no other + players. Getting a majority of his points on the PP makes that an even more impressive stat - Played over 23 mins a game last season, plays in all situations (2:34 sh and 2:31 pp per game) - If you compare his stats to our blue line from last season he would be 3rd hits, 2nd blocks, 1st giveaways (by a huge margin given his ice time) So we can gather from his stats he is physical, isnt afraid to step into the shooting lanes, and is extremely responsible with the puck. Even if you were to take away his offence he would still be a great defenceman. Certainly an upgrade over Salo, if not simply because of his physical play, his ability to eat up minutes, and is quite mobile. I think many here will be pleasantly surprised
oldnews
Garrison had the best relative corsi on the Panthers last season - he was a +10.8 despite facing the second strongest quality of competition among Panthers defensemen. In his rookie season his rel.corsi was -0.8 - yet he had only 42.2% offensive zone starts and faced the strongest quality of competition - stronger than Weaver - and the two faced the best quality opposition by a significant margin. Outstanding numbers on both accounts - and when you look at his fundamentals, his positioning, ability to move the puck, size and his shot, it's hard not to see a lot of potential there, particularly when he'll be playing with every bit as high quality of players. Cromeslab
To be honest I don't know a whole lot about garrisons game other than he put up decent numbers last season. What I'm wondering and hoping is he the type of player that can bring some real nastiness to the back end.If he can do that and help our power play I think we have a winner. Fanuck
And don't forget that Gillis had no part in drafting Edler or Bieksa. All you MG fanboys have your heads so far up his *** that you can't see sh*t anymore. One of the best in the league? Maybe by virtue of the fact that there are only 30 GMs... but that's all. n00bxQb
During the summer when the Shea Weber fiasco was going many people overlooked the Jason Garrison signing including me. Honestly the day we signed him all I knew was that he had one good season and may just be one hit wonder. All I wanted was Shea Weber, but now after hearing how he's been the best defense man at camp the last two days, I wonder if this guy can be just as good as Weber. He put up Ehrhoff like numbers playing for Florida and now that he is on Vancouver I feel he can double that production, speaking optimistically So who knows we may just have picked up the best bang for its buck signing from the off season. Go Canucks Go!!!!!!

VoiceOfReason_
I care more about his defense. Florida fans think Garrison-Weaver (yes, Mike Weaver) was an amazing shutdown pairing prior to Campbell-Garrison. It doesn't get talked about as much as getting a bruiser or offensive juggernaut, but I think we really are missing a consistent defender in our top 4 outside of Hamhuis. WeDreamOfStanley
Looking at pics from camp of the guys off the ice, Garrison looks like one pretty rock solid thick fella. He does play quite a physical game does he not? I don't think we have a real shortage of offense from the defense to the point where he is going to make a huge difference, I will be pumped if his contributions are felt more so in a defensive role. Oh who am I kidding, I want him to be unreal at both. So step up and get it done Garrison. You must be perfect or you will be a let down to CDC. elvis15
I'll just put it all out there though I'm sure it's probably been said already. OP, you should have read through the Garrison signing thread, since much of this was talked about in there. Garrison isn't a one hit wonder with just one good year. He got into this league on his defensive play, and has been on Florida's shutdown pairing and done very well both years in that regard, but added to his game using his big slapshot (helped by playing on the PP with Campbell). He will not be the next Weber. He does play a similar style: big shot, big body, plays physical and is good at both ends of the ice. He will not be in the running for a Norris, most likely (anything could happen), and we'll probably see his goal production drop a little from last year. He will be very good defensively however, and put up some points with his shot from the point with the help of the Sedins and our other offensive talent. After all that, I think he will be good 'bang for the buck' and is an underrated player by a number of people. He's also overrated, due to having scored so often last year, and it's because of that some people are setting themselves up for disappointment. Expect what I've described above and you'll be quite happy, I think.
