I write you a cheque every time he scores this season.

He was clearly long overdue for a change of scenary. I thought the Habs were pretty bad the last couple seasons too.

Every player deserves a second chance. Especially one that's a former star and stanley cup winner. I also think not being weighed down by high expectations due to an inflated contract could be good for him.

Worst case scenario at 1 million dollars is, he becomes a servicable spare forward who is a major upgrade over Ebbett.

How is Gomez serviceable at WORST? Unless something miraculous happened this summer, Gomez has shown no flashes, no ability to up his game when it matters and no desire to play defense....

I'd rather have Ebbett, who is always 100% effort, seems to get along with his teammates and can step in and out of the line-up pretty well and even though his defensive game isn't great, he's at least trying. Gomez is not the player he once was, not even close.

doubt we sign him............Jordon Schroeder should be given a chance..........only Gomez just have more experience and proven winner

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

It just doesn't make sense. If an offense-only player can't produce offense, how is he serviceable?

Ebbett showed last year he will do whatever it takes to stay in the line-up and produced more goals than Gomez in way fewer games.

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree. Too bad Jensen isn't in our lineup anymore. :(

Ebbett stats last year while being juggled in and out of different lines: 5 goals, 1 assists, 6 points, +2 in 18 games.
Gomez stats last year while being a top-6 player most of the year: 2 goals, 9 assists, 11 points, -9 in 38 games.

Not to mention Ebbett has already been playing in the AHL and pretty well this year, whereas Gomez has been doing time in the ECHL - a joke in comparison.

Doesn't compute that Gomez is a 'major upgrade at worst'.

People only think hes a terrible player because of how much he got paid. If he played as well as he has in the last two seasons with a 2 million dollar contract, doesnt look so bad now doesnt he? Good puck skills, can pass well and skate well when hes healthy. Hes not terrible. Id he was terrible he wouldn't be playing in the first place

Two years ago worst plus/minus on the team, last year pace for about 20 assists and 4th worst plus/minus as a playmaker. Not worth 2 million.

Gomez is better than Ebbett. No contest.

The question is what team gives Gomez a chance after the abomination of a season he just had. If it's us, i ain't complaining.

Wow, somebodies a little too high on Ebbett. There's a reason the guy has never been able to become a full time NHLer. He's not as good as you seem to think he is.

Scott Gomez has almost 700 points in 900 NHL games, and has two cup rings. Gomez on his worst day isn't as bad as Ebbett.

He's serviceable because he can play a defensive role and chip in on the pk. Last season he was riddled with injuries, so you can't fairly judge him based on that season. If you look at the season before, he led the team in takeaways and was 5th in scoring. Montreal has not exactly been a great team offensively the last couple of seasons either (finishing bottom third both seasons).

He clearly just didn't fit in there. He needs a new team to help him re-invent his game. That seems to be a hobby of Gillis's. Gomez is the exact definition of a moneyball player.

You need to stop labelling a player because of what other fans have said. Every player has an off season or two, it doesn't mean they suck. Players that know it's their last chance, tend to play pretty well. It worked for Torres after all.

Scot Gomez could come here because he has play here during his BCHL days and he is from Alaska........Also he is TWO stanley cup rings...we currently have zero but we have cup final experience.....but Jordon Schroeder should get his chance to shine and Gomez will likely go to a team that is desperate for a center.......

I would say the Canucks are desperate for a center right now.

Schroeder looked great tonight, but he may not be ready for a full time second line position yet. Hopefully he will, but it would be nice to have a legitimate backup plan.

What better player to mentor Schroeder than one of the best small American centers to play the game.

I would not be surprise if Scott Gomez signed a contract with the Canucks or another team tomorrow .

There will be competition to get him. Did MG ever acknowledge what they plan to do with no second line?We see if he comes here or another team, I sure we should have some interest?

I'm not THAT high on Ebbett, but Gomez is definitely NOT a good defensive player and would play only on the PK after - Malhotra, Hansen, Burrows, Lapierre, Higgins and Raymond. Kesler too when he's healthy. Gomez didn't PK at all for MTL last year for a reason..

What I am saying is, Gomez isn't a useful 3rd liner, because of his lack of defensive game, he obviously isn't a 4th liner and as a 'serviceable' upgrade over Ebbett that just doesn't make sense... a 13th forward needs to be a player who will put in 100% effort every chance he gets, Gomez didn't show that at all last year and had worse offensive stats than Ebbett.

Gomez played his best years on NJ when they were one of the most defensive-minded teams in NHL history

no way would he have been as effective as he was there without having a sense of defensive responsibility

Flames would make sense. They're certainly not above such desperation moves and they've kind of got themselves stuck as far as centres go.

Don't forget Arnott is still lurking around out there somewhere. Haven't heard his name in rumors a whole lot.

Canucks were apparently interested in him earlier.

Arnott's agent said that he was gonna be signed by somebody at the end of last week because there was so much interest.... yeah right! He's probably asking for too much and too long.

David Pagnotta@TheFourthPeriod
Free agent center Jason Arnott continues to talk to the 4-5 teams that have shown interest in him, but a deal is unlikely by tomorrow.

Pagnotta posted that a few hours ago.

Would much rather have Arnott on the Canucks. At least when he's not putting up points, he is a big body who's solid on the puck, isn't afraid to throw hits and knows how to play defense (although he's a bit too slow to be deemed a '2-way' forward at this point). Not to mention he's wore an A or C for at least 7 seasons during his career which makes me thing he's a good dressing room guy..

He paced for 19 goals last year playing mostly a bottom-6 role.

In a 48 game season his age might be less of a factor.. Malhotra - Arnott - Weise would be a good 4th line when the team is rolling healthy.

Sportsnet reports Gomez is only interested in Western Conference teams.

So far the Sharks are the only team to make him an offer.

News of the day as many of you know is that Scott Gomez skated with the Sharks this morning as he and the team try to figure if there’s a good fit here. The fact that Larry Robinson is on the coaching staff helps immensely as the two were together in New Jersey and apparently have high regard for each other.
I did get a chance to talk with Doug Wilson between connecting flights.
“We look at it that he’s 33, he’s won two cups. A very versatile player,” the GM said.
