And Jensen does get sent back to the AHL with Raymond and Weise all but ready to go:

@VanCanucks
Media Release: Nicklas Jensen reassigned to Chicago Wolves.

@benkuzma
#Canucks have re-assigned Jensen to the #Wolves. No surprise. Raymond and Weise practised Friday after healing shoulder ailments.

@annschmaltz
AV will wait to make a decision on Raymond and Weise in the morning. Kesler at home battling the flu. #Canucks

Will Booth return in the playoffs or is he completely done for the whole year?

Farhan Lalji@FarhanLaljiTSN
Kesler, Raymond, Weise, Ballard among those on the ice for #canucks optional, as per @SteveEwen

I take it Kesler is feeling better today.

Dan Murphy@sportsnetmurph
#canucks Mason Raymond and Dale Weise both return tonight taking Steve Pinizzotto and Nicklas Jensen's spots in the line-up.

Steve Ewen@SteveEwen
#Canucks Raymond playing with Ebbett and Kassian. Weise in with Lapierre and Sestito. Top two lines stay same.

^ So Ebbet stays in the line-up........makes no sense when Calgary is going to ice Jackman, Begin and McGrattan.

Should be

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Higgins - Roy - Hansen
Raymond - Lapierre - Kassian
Sestito - Pinizzotto - Weise

I'm actually ok with Ebbett centering the 3rd and Lappy on the 4th. Pinizzotto doesn't PK and it seems like everytime he's on the ice the opposition scores.

Will Booth return in the playoffs or is he completely done for the whole year?

From the last two pages of this thread:

Farhan Lalji ‏@FarhanLaljiTSN 4m
I'm hearing the #canucks are hopeful that Kesler will begin skating by the end of this month. Booth could be out up to 2 months

Per NHL.com website: Gillis is quoted as saying the following (I copied and pasted directly from NHL.com article) about David Booth:

"David is going to get surgery today and hopefully that will accelerate the process some measure and then he'll have to wait and rehab like anyone else," Gillis told the station, adding "there's a chance" Booth could return in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

I couldn't figure out how to create a link, but if you go to the NHL.com website, this article is currently listed under top headlines. Can't tell how long they will keep it there, however.

Only the same news we already had: he's out for the season and won't be ready to start the playoffs.
...

Nothing newer than that I've heard, and likely won't be until he gets re-evaluated on his next check up.

That sucks......big time.

Much prefer keeping the 2nd line that got us here when every thing else was failing.

Sedin - Sedin- Burrows
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Higgins - Roy - Kassian
Sestito - Lapierre - Weise.

Except Schroeder is in Chicago....and I was suggesting icing a tough line up.....and surprise surprise there were 2 fights, which we lost.

But cool.

@FarhanLaljiTSN: Ballard skating. Tanev isn't. #canucks

@FarhanLaljiTSN: Kesler leading the post-skate stretch. Rest of #canucks slapping their sticks. #YouNeverKnow

@FarhanLaljiTSN: Kesler likely playing tonight. "Possible, that's what it looks like".

Put him on the 3rd Line (2B with Raymond and Kassian) keep him OFF the PK, until he is back in game shape (5 games)
Roy has done a Great job in his stead...in both departments

Has it even been a week since someone (was it AV?) said he could be skating in a week? And now he's suddenly ready to play?

Great to have Kesler back. I'd like to seem him tone down the "bull in a china closet" play style for the first couple games, but I know that won't happen.

Has it even been a week since someone (was it AV?) said he could be skating in a week? And now he's suddenly ready to play?

Here's the tweet that was posted March 20:

Farhan Lalji ‏@FarhanLaljiTSN I'm hearing the #canucks are hopeful that Kesler will begin skating by the end of this month. Booth could be out up to 2 months

And on March 29:

Farhan Lalji@FarhanLaljiTSN Kesler is supposed to get another CT scan on Mon or Tues

And then on April 1 (not an April Fools day joke):

Farhan Lalji@FarhanLaljiTSN Gillis re Kesler, "we expect Ryan to skate today... expect him to play within a week" #canucks

Its April 8 now, so that's a week later. Seems like a reasonable progression and it may have actually been held up a bit by Kesler getting the flu as he was coming back to start skating.

So long as the bone is healed and Kesler is feeling up to game shape, I'm good with it. If he isn't, no need to rush.

Yeah, I think the CT scan confirmed Kesler's bone was completely healed. (Didn't someone say that in an interview?) So, if he's feeling up to speed I'm happy to see him return.

Right now, I'm more concerned with the fact that Tanev didn't skate with the team. He's been getting banged up a lot lately and I'm worried it's taking its toll. I really hope he takes some time off and heals if he needs to because we need him healthy and spring loaded again come playoffs.

@FarhanLaljiTSN: In case there was any doubt re "possible" Kesler confirms he WILL play tonight. Also looks like Ballard & Barker in, Tanev out for #canucks

@FarhanLaljiTSN: AV: "Like they used to do in the old days, were going to play him into shape... I'm going to hold myself back tonight (re TOI)" #canucks

@FarhanLaljiTSN: AV re Tanev "Hurt his leg last game. Day to day" Don't expect Kesler on PP or PK tonight. Alberts is in, not Barker. #canucks

Hornet updates the OP every so often, but it isn't done immediately every time a player gets healthy or injured.

Not that it gives us any real update on his ETR, but first I've seen of him in awhile:

David Booth on crutches at #Canucks bench during morning skate. First sign of him since surgery

Sumbitch, just as we were nearing full health. Much like bad winters are typically a sign of good summers, hopefully the Canucks will be healthy heading into the post season.

Scan reveals Higgins (knee) has mild strain. Could return in two weeks. Longer for Tanev (ankle). #canucks

Brad Ziemer@BradZiemer
Schneider feeling much better this morning. Wasn't able to watch game on TV last night. Hotel was showing Oilers. "I listened on the radio."

Someone had mentioned Hansen was only sitting in the 3rd because others were playing better and getting the ice time.

A little more detail on Higgins and Tanev (which was pretty much confirmed again by Gillis on the Team 1040 this morning):

Winger Chris Higgins' knee injury is not as serious as first feared and the Vancouver Canucks could have him back before the end of the regular season.

Coach Alain Vigneault said a scan indicated Higgins has a "mild strain."

"So we are looking at a couple of weeks," Vigneault said Thursday before the team left Calgary for Denver.

Vigneault said if Higgins' rehab goes well he could be back before the end of the regular season. The Canucks finish the regular season on April 27 with a game in Edmonton.

Vigneault said defenceman Chris Tanev remains out "indefinitely" with what is believed to be a foot injury. But general manager Mike Gillis sounded more optimistic about Tanev's return.

"We think he'll be back fairly soon as well," Gillis said.

Tanev has missed two games with his injury, while Higgins sat out his first game Wednesday night.

The aforementioned Gillis interview on Team1040:
http://www.teamradio.ca/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/mike-gillis-april-12.mp3

Summary (including other things):
  • Situation with Butler as backup: started that morning and they have a list of goalies in each city in the event of an emergency, give them jersey and under gear plus $500 contract, players actually wanted him to play at the end but wasn't really appropriate to put him in, would have been available to play if needed though
  • On Luongo and his nervousness/butterflies: Lu's been a pro through the entire episode, competitor and great relationship with team and players, wants to perform well when he can
  • Trade deadline a difficult day for everybody, heat of the moment for Luongo, no different for him, they were close to something happening but like a lot of trades it didn't
  • Canucks were involved in a discussion with another team that would have played a major role in completing the trade if it happened, moving what Toronto had offered
  • Was there another team other than Toronto it could have happened with? Yes.
  • No chance for a compliance buyout "at this time"
  • Higgins injury is a mild MCL sprain, not that serious but can be nagging so they'll see how it is in a few days
  • Booth not likely to be sooner than 2nd round based on the injury he had, outside possibility for 2nd round though
  • Jensen will stay with Chicago is they make the playoffs, could be an option in the playoffs as he can play in the NHL
  • Schroeder much the same, consistency is the issue and they haven't considered him on the wing but they could if they had to
  • Tanev injured ankle in a hit against Calgary, has had an MRI and is in a walking boot, uncertain how long he be out for, not that serious but serious enough to keep him out to let it heal, out 7 days to 2 weeks
  • Kassian has good vision and hockey sense but with young plaers want to see that every night, every shift, he and Kesler are competitive guys and can be a good line, people are recognizing Kassian is a highly skilled player too
  • Schneider will play his share of games down the stretch, was aware Luongo might not get traded going into the season and Cory has proven he's capable of handling it, both goalies will be well prepared to start in the playoffs but clearly Cory has played well enough to earn the spot
  • Speculation around Peoria moving to Abby, no developments at this point, there's a chance they could stay in Peoria but also looking at other locations as there's high demand for AHL teams

Schneider (flu) on practice ice for #Canucks.
Hansen taking #Canucks practice shifts with Sedins, Burrows with Kesler, Kassian.

Good to hear Schneider's getting his wind back and Hansen is ok (even if I don't think he stick there). Perhaps Luongo gets one more start since the game is early tomorrow, and then over to Schneider for the back to back games on Monday and Tuesday. I'd rather see Burrows or Kassian - or even call up Jensen again if they want a 3rd option with the twins - but if they feel Hansen isn't meshing with Roy, they might consider a change.

Updates from last night:

Dan Murphy@sportsnetmurph
#Canucks Derek Roy thought he lost teeth from high stick, instead he's got bleeding gums and some stitches under his nose. Nothing busted.
#Canucks Hansen had the wind knocked out of him in the 2nd. No arm injury at all.
