We need depth, we need a center, these guys hav a point to prove, hav made they're paycheck for the year, could sign relitivly cheap, and could definatly help in the situation the nucks are in for injuries....

Redden is definatly better than barker and the captain of his ahl team, ha sbeen playing this year allready...
gomez is definatly an upgrade at center over ebbitt/schroeder/lappy...

could be a win win for sure without much risk, or trading an asset to acuire a player that could fill one of those rolls.

What u think?

We don't need Redden, D is fine.

Gomez, maybe, if cheap.

Honestly neither, Gomez is washed up and done, Redden as stated we already have enough depth on D. If anything the Canucks should really try and sign Arnott, he would be a way better option then Gomez.

Have a feeling that Arnott is asking for more money than most GM's are willing to give. His agent has been trying to prop up some kind of bidding war. Not sure how much interest there really is.

Both guys may be motivated to get back at it; if just to finish of their careers with some self respect.

Gotta think Gomez could help us at centre.

I've always liked Redden, too.

If the price is right you could do worse than a couple of talented vets that have fallen from grace.

Of course, they're still raking in the dough, which caused them to take their foot of the gas in the first place.

Gomez would be a good backup plan if he is cheap. You've gotta think things just weren't working out for him in Montreal. I have a hard time believing his skills would drop off that quickly.

As for Redden, there's no way we get him. Too many teams out there need D right now, so he'll likely end up getting at least a couple mil if not more.

I'm probably sure you're absolutely right, that's what the agents job is to get his client the most money possible. I just personally think I would rather spend money on Arnott for 1 year possibly 2 then going after Gomez. Also if Arnott doesn't sign because GM's aren't willing to pay as much as he's asking, Arnott will have to lower his asking price if he really wants to play, then it could be even more worth it.

Actually, Gomez for < 1 mil would be a low risk play imo. Did he lose his skill or did he lose his confidence under the weight of his enormous contract? I bet there is a team that will try to find out.

With the way our forward situation is, particularly for playmaking centers, you have to think Gillis will at least kick the tires.

So a team currently without a second line center shouldn't take a chance on a former star for cheap?

Tell us then, who do you have penciled in as the second line center?

Stay in school, kids.

Someone will offer Redden more than what we want to, possibly with Gomez too. Perhaps we get Gomez on a cheap deal because he wants to be here more than anywhere else (he played with the Surrey Eagles, closest to Alaska where he grew up, we're a contender) but there are a few teams that will ask about him once he's cleared.

I don't think gomez would be a bad idea if he came cheap but redden we'd have absolutely no need for. Gomez would probably do a better job filling that 2nd line C position then that we got now and would be just fine on the 3rd line C once kesler got back

Here is what i wrote in another thread:

At 7+ million Gomez is not worth getting. At somewhere around 1 million though especially when putting him into a system like ours with shoot-first wingers? That is the very definition of a sleeper situation. He is still a skilled playmaker and puck possession center. Just not at 7 million bucks per year. The weight of that contract has been huge and he has played in two of the biggest and most harsh hockey cities in NY and MTL. About the only real risk at a million or less is if he can handle the pressure of playing in Van and raise his game. But at a million even if he can't is it a really big loss?

At the very least, how much better would our 2nd PP look even if that is the only place he ever played?

Risk/Reward, people......its the name of the game.

I actually think Redden would be a solid addition to our bottom D pairing. Either player could bring some value to us if we sign them to one year deals for under $1-million and let them prove themselves.

We already signed some defensive depth, would be nice to add another forward too. Gomez if the price is right, maybe a change of scenery is all he needs. I also wouldnt object to Arnott either for the right price.

In this shortned season injuries are going to be key so more depth at forward as well couldnt hurt. Depending on the asking price.

Your entitled to your opinion but relax, maybe you should go smoke one....

With our injuries at center and to the second line, a vet like Gomez could fill the void nicely for the right price and at the very least give us some vbaluable depth at the forward position. Im just not comfortable gambling on Schroeder and Ebbett with such a shortened season when every game and point counts.

What if Lapierre or Henrik get injured? Then what? With the shortened training camp and preseason and long layoff more guys are bound to get hurt it is inevitable. A bit more experienced depth at forward would be a asset.
