Niloc009
The New Jersey Devils have announced that defenseman Bryce Salvador will serve as captain for the 2012-13 season. Salvador, 36, joined the Devils during the 2007-08 season in a trade from the St. Louis Blues. He's played parts of four seasons in New Jersey, missing the entire 2010-11 campaign with a concussion. He signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract this summer. Zach Parise, who spent one season as captain of the Devils, signed with the Minnesota Wild in July. Ilya Kovachuk and Patrik Elias will serve as alternate captains.
Ossi Vaananen
I thought Elias was a shoe in, that or Kovalchuk. I like to think I watch a lot of hockey, and I don't know who Salvador is beyond being a defenseman on New Jersy.

-AJ-
I don't understand why it's not Elias. Maybe he doesn't want to be captain or something.

Jai604
Makes sense, although I expected it to be Elias.
D-Money
No biggie - he may be a good leader, and comfortable with the media. Elias has been asked to be captain before, and rejected it. Plus, he's probably retiring soon, whereas Salvador just signed a 3-year extension.
Dion Phaneuf
It was either him or Kovalchuk. Elias had his chance a few years ago.
