If he blows this Loungo deal by not getting a scoring winger, a real prospect and a draft pick then he should be toast. He has already thrown away 2 very good players in Grabner and COHO for a bottom 6 forward, a number 7 dman and a "project". could you imagine if those 2 players were in the lineup today. Granted he's made some nice aquisitions in Hamius and Garrison, but is it just me, he seems not able to pull the trigger on landing a true top 6 forward(Booth is not a top 6, post concussion).

Hamhuis n garrison wanted to play for their home team... its not like he made a tradr. MG is extremely over rated and should have been canned after our playoff exit. Either him or AV. Instead our best player in the series took the blame and got benched(Luongo).

Mg has made too many bad decisions. Hope he's gone ASAP Unless he can get an elite player in return for Luongo he should be fired.

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

In hindsight, yes Gillis has made some decisions that did not pan out, but look at what the team has accomplished under his leadership. Who would you rather have Burke, Nonis, or Gillis running the ship? The answer is simple in my opinion.

It takes two to tango. If nobody is offering what MG is hoping to get is it better to have that much cap tied up in one position or is it better to get whatever he can?

And no, I can't imagine Grabner in the lineup today. He was a bust in Vancouver. He was also a bust in Florida. Then he had one outstanding year on the Island.

Hodgson I can imagine, but he's been traded already for a kid that shows just as much promise but without all the baggage.

I like the looks of our lineup. It's going to be a good year!

Gillis is just as over rated as Brian Burke when he took over the ducks. Ducks already had the pieces in place to win the cup.. burky made a couple deals and was hailed as all mighty.

Same as mg... except his team didn't win the cup. All theessential pieces where in place for mg to succeed

If he's on thin ice there'd only be one explanation - it's not very cold in Vancouver.
Otherwise, he's doing just fine.

Too many newer fans on here that forget what its like to have horrible GMs.

Be thankful that we have Gillis. He's a great GM.

All Gms make mistakes. You don't fire them becuase they make one or two questionable trades. He's done enough other great things for this team that vastly outweigh those deals. His job is about as safe as they come.

Results since Gillis took over:

Year 1: won division, 3rd in conference, 7th overall, lost in 2nd round
Year 2: won division, 3rd in conference, 5th overall, lost in 2nd round
Year 3: first overall, lost in finals
Year 4: first overall, lost in first round
Year 5: TBA

those are some pretty solid results, how is that thin ice? Four straight division wins, never below 7th overall, averaging a second-round playoff appearance, that is pretty solid and we've had a legit shot at the Cup, been a contender every season.

So.. who do you propose we replace him with? Who is out there who would be a clear improvement?

Oh.. you think he's made mistakes? All GM's make mistakes.

If you're going to rag on MG you're going to need to do better than this.

There's no respect for GMs from nit witts like this because they all think that being a GM is easy. After all their team is in first place in NHL 13

The truth is, being a GM is damn hard. You're competing with 29 other GMs who are all just as competitive and want the best for their teams. Sometimes trades don't work out as well as you want them too. That's the nature of the business that every GM is aware of.

I think it's safe to say he's made enough good trades to make up for the couple questionable ones. Ehrhoff, Samuelsson for Booth, Higgins, Lapierre, even the Hodgson for Kassian one can still turn out good for us.

Kassian is not a top 6 forward yet. On our lineup, he's still bottom 6. He has to work his way up. He's got the potential to BECOME a top 6 but he's not ready to take on a top 6 role yet.

With the injury to Booth, I expect he'll be getting top 6 minutes for the first month or so for obvious reasons but when our team is healthy, no, Kassian is not a top 6 forward at the moment

What if Kassian does prove that he can play in the top-6 during that time though? Then he's a top 6 forward. I do agree with you though, I don't think he's quite ready. We'll see.

He was handed arguably the two most complete players in the NHL the paSt five years ... and certainly the most complete players in the history of Vancouver. (Sedins)

And the best or second best only to lundqvist goalie in the league the past 5 years.

Everyone thinks its so easy to trade for a top winger because he was able to do it on NHL13. It doesnt work that way. If he was truly missing out on deals then ownership wouldn't have let him manage this long.

Apparently the saying "what have you done for me lately" does really hold true in sports.

Forget that he constructed one of the deepest, most statisticaly dominant teams the Canucks have ever had only two seasons ago. That means nothing now.

Bunch of ungrateful ingrates.

Though I think he's doing an ok job, the table was pretty well set for him before he got here, and he hasn't done a whole lot to improve on that.

Burke/Nonis
Sedins
Kesler
hansen
Burrows
raymond
Edler
Schneider
Luongo
Bieksa

MG
Hamhuis
Ballard
Malhotra
Higgins
Booth
Barker
Vandermeer
Kassian
Schroeder
Ebbett
Lapierre
Volpatti
Weise
Alberts
Garrison

It can easily be argued that this is still, primarily, Nonis and Burke's team and that Gilli's only major contribution that have worked out have been Hamhuis, Lapierre, Higgins and, to some degree, Malhotra
