Hey Guys on the TSN Pannel Ray Ferraro or Aaron Ward , I believe 1 of them said Cory is a top 10 Goaltender , They said he has all the talent in the world , How would you guys rank the top ten , And do you think they were going off of last year only or previous 2 years of his body of work , and he got a shutout tonight :)

Cory and Luongo made the top 14 goalie draft teams on TSN.

Kirk: Maybe he's not out there, Bones. Maybe he's right here. [points to his heart]

The playoffs really capped it off.

The story of the series wasn't just how the Canucks were going to beat Quick but also how were the Kings going to beat Schneider.
Schneider was able to match Quick's play and actually give us a chance to win.

Schneider will be better than Quick, by the time the former reaches Quick's age.

Do you think Schneider has a chance to challenge Quick for the US starting job at the Olympics next year?

I`ve been a Schneider fan since day one!

OK, maybe not day 1...it was a bold draft pick. Totally off the board at the time but man, am I ever glad we got him. I see him being hands down the best American goalie for the next decade.

Mike Richter 2.0?

I just don't think you can add Schnieder yet. Has to play a season at least as the the starter to get a good idea.

I do not understand how and why Carey Price is rated so high to many people and is not higher than Luongo. Price took his team to dead last in the east.

Luongo didn't blow the series vs LA, the team played like garbage. I dont know why everyone in this city loves ragging on the best goalie we've ever had.

Also think Markstrom will have a solid showing for the Panthers.

Big Schneider fan btw, but I think he just needs to prove he can handle job before ranking him in the top 10.

1. Henrik Lundqvist. Model of consistency and continual elite play in every stage.
2. Jonathan Quick. After the year he just had, he has to be #2 at least.
3. Pekka Rinne. A workhorse in Nashville that puts the team into the postseason.
4. Carey Price. Oozing with raw talent, the backbone of the Canadiens team.
5. Roberto Luongo. Fading a little, but has been consistently one of the best goalies in the league for the past decade.
6. Ryan Miller. Had a playing peak as elite as Jonathan Quick. Has cooled off a little, but talent that great doesn't fade away forever.
7. Cam Ward. Another model of consistency, reliable, solid.
8. Cory Schneider. Has shown flashes of brilliance, and has not looked to slow down, but needs to prove more at the NHL level to take what seems to be his true place higher up the list.
9. Tuukka Rask. Like Schneider, has shown flashes of brilliance, but has also shown he can play poorly for extended periods of time. With some consistency he could be higher.
10. Niklas Backstrom. Left out to dry by a hapless Minnesota franchise - would be a Vezina hopeful in a bigger market.

Others:
Kari Lehtonen. Feels like he should be in the top ten, but gets pushed to 11th. Still a solid goalie and would be the #1 on most teams without question.
Jimmy Howard. Solid goalie but I'm not convinced that Lidstrom hasn't made his job a bit too easy up to this point.
Mike Smith. A product of Dave Tippett's coaching, same as Bryzgalov and Turco before him.
Jaroslav Halak, Brian Elliott. Same as above, but replace Dave Tippett with Ken Hitchcock. Hitch is the guy who made Steve Mason into a Hart finalist.
Marc-Andre Fleury. Simply an above average starter.
Semyon Varlamov. Has the skills to be a bona fide #1 but needs to show more.

Miller the 2nd best goalie in the NHL? What fantasy land do you live in? Yes he's good but he got destroyed the last couple years. And yeah, he's on an awful team, but I don't pretend to know how good he 'would've been' behind an elite team. It's impossible to know for sure. I think he's top 10 on a good team though, don't get me wrong.

We've got:

Quick,
Lundqvist
Rinne
Smith
Schneider
Kipper
Elliot
Halak
Price
Luongo

I think a year or two ago Tim Thomas was top 3 as well, but I excluded him from the list since he's on hiatus.

PS: I think I should explain why I have the Blues goalies so low. I think they benefited from a team that is extremely focused on defence first, and giving the other team as few offensive opportunities as possible. I think the Blues goalies played behind the finest defensive system in the league last season, so that's why I don't think they were top 5 goalies necessarily--although they were pretty sweet.

Btw did anyone actually watch / follow Mike Smith last year? He was in the top 5 easily and put on some ridiculous performances, I feel he's harshly being underrated on this thread.

No, he's not top 10, not even in Canucks history. Not yet at least. There are at least 15 goalies out there better than him, off the top of my head... Luongo being one of them!

It's so unfair for louongo to surrender his starting job to a goalie that's not as good as him and a goalie that is not even in the top 10 to boot. Do you think Cory has some blackmail evidence on AV? It's starting to look like something fishy is aloft, I think there should be some type of internal investigation into this.

In no particular order

Quick
Rinne
Lundqvist
Schneider
Howard
Smith
Luongo
Fleury
Brodeur
Price/Bryzgalov/Kiprusoff/Miller/Elliott/Halak

How can you put Smith and Howard above Luongo? Smith has had one good season and Howard had two with arguably the leagues best defence in front of him. It would be the same with Rinne (who is awesome in my opinion) but he also has had the leagues best defence in front of him. This year will be far more telling for Rinne. Fluery shouldnt even be on that list, Rask should be. I would put Kipper just after Luongo (and maybe in front of him considering the team he has in front of him).
Here is how would put them in order top 10:

Quick
Lundqvist
Luongo
Rinne
Kipper
Miller
Rask
Smith
Schnieder
Backstrom
Lehtonen

Of course honorable mentions go to the tandem of Halak/Elliot, and Howard for their play last season

A lot of factors come into play here. Including the team in front of them, and consistency over multiple seasons. Kipper, Luongo and Rinne could easily slide into each other spots. Backstrom and Lehtonen made the list, steadily doing more with less.

I would somewhat agree, especially with his playoff performance. But 1 season does not put him in the top 5, especially if you look at his previous seasons.

I agree with the Halak/Smith ranking especially with their defensive structure in STL. Smith was fantastic last year and in the playoffs but I think you have him ranked too high for one season of great play.
