In almost every way, I think, except Garrison is more physical.

Both guys are pretty average on D (he was partially to blame on the 2nd Edm goal), and both have great shots, and can move the puck well on the PP, and have good chemistry with Edler.

Garrison's been playing decent offensively and seems comfortable with Edler. But at this point, he reminds me so much of Ehrhoff (even his number?!) that I think Edler may need to lean towards D-first instead of 2-way when he played with Salo.

I find it funny how we pretty much paid Garrison what we would have paid Ehrhoff. Except we would have known exactly what we would get from the Hoff whereas Garrison is a slight gamble.

Still no complaints about his signing, though.

Oh yeah, I forgot... This board hates Ehrhoff because he wanted money (you think you would have taken less than what you deserved? Give me a break).

If it wasn't for Edler, none of our D could shoot and score from the point. Ehrhoff was the only guy who could consistently do that when he was here. Isn't that what Garrison is here for?

Doesn't Garrison jump into the slot on PPs? Like Ehrhoff did there? (Was our 1st goal of the campaign that season btw).

Don't let prejudice or homerism get in your way. I wasn't happy with Ehrhoff's decision for money either but facts are facts. Both have offensive upside that are also very similar and both are pretty average on D. To be honest Garrison hasn't impressed me in any way in our own zone, he's only been noticeable on the PP. That was Ehrhoff.

P.S. We probably owe some credit to Ehrhoff for helping us get by the Hawks. He always produced in the playoffs against them.

If 16g from a D-man is "some" offensive upside, then you need to lower your standards hahah

But I agree, Garrison > Ehrhoff

If Ehrhoff was a Canuck and Garrison wasn't CDC's consensus would be Ehrhoff>Garrison.

Since Garrison is a Canuck it's obvious the consensus on the board is Garrison>Ehrhoff

Don't mean to be biased towards Canucks players but wasn't Garrison ranked as one of the top shutdown d-men in the NHL one or two years ago? How is that "average"

Ehrhoff was pretty damn good defensively with the Canucks too. There's a reason he was voted 9th overall in Norris Voting, so please show the guy some respect. Garrison has done nothing so far with the Canucks and while he looks solid, he's definately not top-10 in the league.

Ehrhoff > Garrison, but we'll have to wait and see how good this guy is with the Canucks.

For those who said Garrison > Ehrhoff, how can you possibly make a decision based on two games????

If you judge things on a two game window, I guess Schneider should be sent down to the minors or traded, Weiss, should be cut because all he does is fall down, and Kassian should get 1st line minutes for the rest of the year.

I think you'd need to see him play in a few more than 2 games to decide if he's equivalent or better to a guy who was with us for 2 years... Let him have a bad game and then we'll see if Garrison >>>>> Ehrhoff according to CDC.

In fairness, Garrison has proven himself already with solid seaons in Florida, sure he will need to keep it up here but he's not an unkown questionable.

Not really. If we based it off last season then you would be hard pressed to find someone except a die hard Erohoff fan to believe that.

One factor in Garrison's favor.

He can play defense.

YOU WISH Garrison was as skilled with the puck as Ehrhoff. Garrison has a good shot and decent vision with slightly better defense than Ehrhoff, but he's more physical. However, in the offensive zone it isn't even CLOSE, Ehrhoff moves through the zone a lot smoother, see's opening better and knows when to drop into the slot. His shot is more accurate and he's a far better passer, and for a defenseman his wristshot is killer. He's one of the best in the world on the power play, Garrsion isn't on his level in that regard.

If you base it off 2 years ago, 3 years ago, 4 years ago, you would be hard pressed to find someone except a die hard Garrison fan to believe he's better than Ehrhoff. I honestly don't know who's the better player since they play two completely different styles. Garrison could be a one-trick pony on offense or he could be the second best offensive d-man on the team. All speculation at this point.

I doubt Canucks fans would have picked Garrison over Ehrhoff on the Canucks simply based on the fact that Ehrhoff was voted best d-man of the year by the fans for both years that he was here.

I am completely against you on the goaltending front, but I think you just about nailed it here. I didn't want to make any detailed observations as we haven't seen enough of him (highlights when he was in FLA doesn't show his game clearly), but I was watching some Ehrhoff videos and man... This guy has an amazing shot. I'd say even more effective than Chara's. I mean, power-wise Ehrhoff's 10mph behind but Ehrhoff shoots to an inch of where he aims. That's impressive.

I think most people would have said "Who the heck is Garrison?" 3 years ago, as he played half the season for the Rochester Americans.

Vancouver has Bieksa,Hamhuis ,Garrison,Alberts and Tanev that all play a defensive game for the most part.
Only Eddy can be described as a talented, offensively producing d man on this team.

Vancouver could use an Ehrhoff.Oh,yeah,we already let him go.

Till Garrison plays well consistently and consistently puts up points, for me it will ALWAYS be Ehrhoff > Garrison. Ehrhoff one of my favorite defensemen in the league even though he clearly isn't one of the best in the league. I loved him when he was in Vancouver and wish we had re-signed him.
