If Kesler is gone for almost 2 months and in a 48 game season I don t see us making the playoffs this year.

You can have the best goaltending and defense but the Canucks problems the last few years in the playoffs has been our lack of scoring and it will be even worse this year without Kesler and Booth.

Edmonton and Minnesota in our division are definitely better than the previous years.

Gillis did not acccept a trade for Lou in the off season being too greedy..and this will come back to haunt him at the end of the year.

I don't see Luongo not being traded as a big deal. Having 2 solid goalies will do wonders for us as the season progresses. We have only played 2 games so far and it is hard to make a judgement call on just those 2 games.

I agree however that we need more scoring... unfortunately, I don't think Schroeder is ready for the NHL but we need to get rid of Ebbett and get someone else in that second centre position!

You say Gillis did not accept a trade but the only trade that was offered to out knowledge was Luongo to Schenn straight up. You do know Schenn is a D right? How was that going to help our second line scoring?

Be patient, I don't care if we squeeze into 8th. It is not the be all or end all winning the Presidents trophy. That hasn't really worked for us past two years has it?

Agreed. All trade rumors were just rumors.

LA did it when they were in 8th, so can we!

It actually produces a much more exciting season when we are fighting to stay alive!

Gillis did say last night in the 1st intermission that Kesler will be skating with the team in the next 7-10 days so i dont see how he will be missing the next 2 months. Sounded like he will be back before Booth will(according to MG).

Also you dont know what Gillis was offered because noone really does and if he feels it isnt going to help the team then good for gillis. You dont give a guy like Luongo away. So quit crying about it.

Ya but think if we could get at lest 3 solid forwards in a trade for lu and when booth and kesler come back. The canucks are going to have a wicked team.

Didn't Gillis say in the first intermission interview that Kesler will start skating with the team in about a week? - and that Booth would be shortly after that? Stop with the doomsday threads

not addressing the 2nd line for two years now is whats gonna get the canucks. Sedins cant do it all.
Kesler needs Legit 2nd line wingers for a long time now. Booth should be package for an upgrade. Raymond should not even get 2nd line ice time at all. kassian is not ready for 2nd line duty.

It also doesn't help when other teams' young superstars are getting better and hitting their prime.

Getting Legit 2nd line wingers for kesler will give this team 2 dangerous offensive lines with a great 3rd line of higgins-lappy-hansen.

You really think a Booth- Kesler -Raymond is gonna scare any team? The only reason the 2nd line was decent before was because of kesler. Now other teams have figured out to just cover kesler and leave the other two alone. There's lots of teams this season with a better 2nd line than the canucks. If gillis doesnt give kesler legit wingers then canucks will likely not go all the way. 2nd line weakness will be their downfall when the sedin line gets checked heavily in the playoffs and no 2nd line to support them.

No kidding. Calling for Booth to be traded after 4/5's of a season in Vancouver is ridiculous.

I could care less if the line scares anyone. Booth hasnt even played a full season with the canucks so now hes completely useless? pretty harsh. I mean do the ducks give up on Getzlaf because he went from a 90 point guy to a 57 point last year? Raymond came off of serious back surgery and has looked pretty good so far and it doesnt mean he will never get the chemistry back he had once with kesler regardless of what you say. You dont just give up on people, its not how it works.

Just because Canucks are 0-1-1 they aren't going to make playoffs? May I point out that the Rangers are 0-2.

I don't even think Canucks fans realize that Ryan Kesler IS the second line. Without him we have no second line!

Raymond, Higgins, Booth or whoever plays on his line are just plugs so basically all we got right now is;

First line
Third line
Third line
Fourth line

...as our forward group. Plan the Parade! :emot-parrot:

* Kesler will not be gone two months.
* The Canucks will make the Playoffs.
* Goaltending and defense are what get you deep in the Playoffs.
* Who cares what other teams are doing in the division ?
* We in the public have no idea what kind of talks if any are going on between GM's in regards to Luongo.
* Its not being greedy to wait for the right return on an asset.

Its two games into the season, the Canucks will be just fine, no need to panic!

Kesler should really win the Hart! I mean, with him we slaughter people and win the President's trophy, without him (for like a quarter/third of the season) we don't even make the playoffs...

The last thing we need is for Kesler to be rushed back to the ice again. We will just have a repeat of last year with an injured Kesler in the playoffs

This team has very few problems really.

-Keslers out. That's not really a big deal except for two reasons. Ebbett has replaced him and Booth is also out.(3 problems in 1)
-Malhotra seems done. New rules take away his advantage in the circle and he's lost a step. He's still nhl caliber but I don't know if he's NHL caliber on a cup contending team. Perhaps some more time and he looks better but right now he's a weak link on the fourth line.
-(This one might be just me) Burrows looks out of sorts. He doesn't look bad but he doesn't look great either. Second goal last night was horrible coverage from him. He's looked more often than not kind of lazy. I'm sure that's not the case and he's working his little french arse off and will get back to form.

The D is looking great. Ballard is still making mistakes but he looks a lot better than he did last season and we're only 2 games in. Garrison and Edler have looked great. Best signing(s) this teams had in a while. Bieksa and Hammer also look like leaders on the ice.

You can talk all you want about "professionals" but the evidence is that coaching makes a big difference.

Oh, I agree, coaching makes a difference.

I take it you've never played hockey?

Played for over 10 years, and coached Ringette for over 10 years as well.

I take it you're not a professional coach nor a professional forum poster?
