CALGARY, AB -- The Calgary Flames announced today they have traded goaltender Henrik Karlsson to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft
The 7th round pick was originally the Ottawa Senators, previously acquired by the Blackhawks

I guess they are going with Irving, but I thought he would have been worth more than a 7th. And I didn't think that Chicago would need another backup.

LOL, a 7th!

I guess nobody wanted him via waivers, and the Heat already have two good goalies.

Karlsson > Alec Richards.

Developed goaltender for a 7th? Better believe this is what the Hawks were looking for their goaltending issues. He might not make an impact this season, but this is an absolute steal. I also think this decreases the rumours of Luongo to Chi town.

Emery let in 4 goals last night. Perhaps they're not comfortable with him.

isn't it obvious....they need a backup goalie because they dumping a goalie to Vancouver for Luongo

One day some of us will look back on the year and look at the chicago, and most of us will realize that it was a small bump in the road to the cup

I almost sarcastically posted something like that.

Getting a fringe back-up is not a substitute for acquiring a franchise starter. Luongo and Karlsson are entirely different assets. If the Blackhawks do indeed have interest in Luongo, I doubt this minor move has any impact on a potential Luongo offer.

Karlsson is awful. And the Hawks could've had him for free, but we got a 7th out of someone that would just be sitting in the pressbox

This is fairly even as well.

I thought Karlsson was a decent goalie. At least worth more than a 7th rounder.

Looks like Chicago's desperate though.

I don't think Karlsson will be playing with Chicago, I think he'll be playing for the Hogs over Alec Richards.

Let's get this straight, I never said he would be playing in Chicago, just that he's a good depth goalie for a 7th.

I also highly doubt Luongo would ever go to the powerhouse that is Chicago. Might as well hand them the WCF.

The had no leverage in the deal that's why they only got a 7th, he is worth more than that IMO, but the it was a tenable situation and the Hawks knew it, and took advantage, a bit surprised they didn't just claim Irving or Karlsson earlier though when they were on waivers.

The Flames will be a powerhouse within a few short years now that *they've added a 7th round pick to an already staggeringly good group of prospects.

EDIT: *you've; sorry, forgot you were part of the organization.

I think it's because at the end of his first year he was showing promise and made some Sportsnet clips, so people are remembering that.

Seeing as Karlsson didn't win a game in a calender year..... I agree with your point.

Nope I thought he was decent the couple times he played the Canucks. The Canucks always seem to have a hard time scoring on big goalies.

Plus he had some awesome celebrations.

I didn't think he was terrible before.

Although I don't think he is worth a ton more, maybe a 4th or 5th, still more than a 7th.

if chicago CLAIMED Karlsson, he'd be on their NHL team, and have to try to clear waivers in order to go down to the AHL. And in that case, Calgary would just reclaim him. Only way to get Karlsson on their AHL team was to trade for him after he went to the A

If Chicago wants him to play on their team now or be an option in future, good for us as he's not that great. Each time I've seen both Karlsson and Irving (AHL and NHL) I haven't been impressed. Of course they're better than me in net, but that's not saying a lot since it's the one position I didn't play just because I was that bad at it.

I don't know the Rockford goalie situation, but it's most likely this is an AHL deal as has been mentioned.
