If you don't actually know who Brunner is, he's technically a sleeper this year, who played in Europe during the lockout with Zetterberg on the same line, Babcock noticed that they had chemistry over there so he was thrown on the first line on Detroit. He had something like 1.80 PPG over there?

In otherwords, he's a beast.

Was he on Detroit's/NHL's radar before then? Seems like he just came out of nowhere...

Brunner has been a great player on a decent side EV Zug in the NLA for a while. Very well-known in Switzerland, was never drafted and the Red Wings struck first. There is so many of these players in the European leagues that could do amazing if given a chance in the NHL, most are turned away if they are over 21...

You want another Sleeper from the Swiss league, check out goal-tender Lukas Flüeler from the ZSC Lions. Only 24, undrafted, has played for the national team and almost single-handedly won ZSC the Swiss championship last season!

Datsyuk is teaching his teammates well. They will be next to unstoppable in shootouts this year.

You couldn't have a shoot out goal, be the goal of the year. It's technically not a goal, in the traditional sense. .

Beauty shoot out winner.

I don't get why Canucks don't spend more money to put scouts all over Europe. Detroit seems to be the only organization in the NHL that has great scouts all over Europe. We could've had Damien Brunner on the 2nd line instead of Raymond.

As do most of Detroits prospects. Its like they got Biff Tannen running the team. HOW DO THEY ALWAYS KNOW.

In fact Zetterburg had 32 points in 23 games with Zug, while Brunner had 57 points in 33 games. He is an undrafted, 26 year old rookie from Switzerland.

Offense aside, It's comparing apples to oranges. Brunner needs to get stronger, and learn the defensive side of the game or he's going to disappear in this league real fast.

Hopefully he is not the next Brunnstrom. If he clicks with Datsyuk & Zetterburg, watch the offense from this line, it would be insane. that shootout goal was sick, like a mini datsyuk

Of course he is nowhere near the well-rounded player that Zetterberg is and may never get close. At this point, like you said, he is one dimensional.

Even if he's one dimensional, a few teams would pay big bucks to find players who are offensively minded. If played with the right type of players, I doubt coaches would care if he didn't play defence well. Of course he'll be coached the basics but if he's playing on a line with Zetterberg, the only thing he'd need to know while playing D in his own zone is to manage the player he's suppose to cover and make sure he doesn't get out of position on the side he's covering.

Certainly going to be our #1 defensemen. Give him a couple more years to improve his game and he'll be our new and improved version of Matthias Ohlund in no time
