Ridiculously early game, folks. The Wolves will take on the St. Louis Blues AHL team first thing tomorrow morning in Peoria. If available, I'll post the lineups tomorrow morning before work. Assuming Matt Climie is ailing from some kind of injury, I imagine Cannata will get the start in net again.

Go Wolves!

I know Lack is skating again, though I'm not sure if he's ready yet. I'd like it to be Cannata though.

The game is at 10 am their time, so they're probably up by 7 ish. It's still retarded to start a game that early, ticket sales must be non existent.

Alright, well I guess no work today. Edmonton winters...

Joe Cannata in net for the Wolves, Jake Allen for the Rivermen.

Rivermen on the PP right now. Anton Rodin is in the box.

So many chances for Andrew Gordon! This guy really has been the Wolves' best player the last few games. He's not many years removed from 37 and 28 goal seasons so I'm not surprised he's getting so many chances to score.

Lots of action in both ends but both team's goalies have been rock solid. I have a feeling the Wolves are officially comfortable with Cannata in net at this point. You wouldn't know the kid has only played a few AHL games.

Coincidental minors are handed out to Peoria's Porter and Chicago's Desbiens. 4 on 4 now.

No clue. The commentators were saying this is the earliest start time they've heard of, though.

3rd period starting.

Fight! Andrew Gordon is trying to hold his own against defenseman David Shields of the Rivermen. The colour guy for the Wolves is pissed off because the Rivermen took exception to a perfectly good, clean hit by Gordon and as a result, Gordon, who is not a fighter, is forced to defend himself against a bigger, more seasonsed fighter.

For the record, I agree. Hockey players need to grow thicker skins. In any case, both Shields and Gordon are in the box for 5 minutes for fighting.

Brett Sonne scores for the Rivermen. Poor defensive breakdown by the Wolves after a botched 4 on 2 rush the other way.

2-0 Rivermen.

The Wolves are trying to pass too much instead of getting as many shots on net as they can. They're looking for the fancy play and need to simplify.

Desbiens doing some nice work at both ends here. He cycled the puck and worked along the boards well to keep the play in the offensive zone and at the other end blocked a shot to prevent a good scoring chance.

PP coming up for the Wolves as Peoria takes a high sticking penalty.

PP unit:

Sweatt - Gordon - Rodin
Haydar - Hunt

Coach Arniel has changed up the 1st line, putting Sweatt on the LW with Gordon and Haydar, and it seems to be working as they're getting a lot of chances.

Cannata makes a clutch save on McRae, who was all alone on a breakaway. Penalty to Brad Hunt though.

PP for the Rivermen. That may be all she wrote.

Shorthanded break for Desbiens but Allen makes the glove save! Wow, what a chance for Desbiens, who is having himself quite the game.

The Wolves successfully kill the Peoria PP but there's only minute left in the game. Cannata is now on the bench for the extra attacker and Peoria takes a penalty so as a result, the Wolves now have a 6 on 4 opportunity.

The Wolves can't do anything with the two extra men and that's the game. Jake Allen with his 2nd shutout of the season for Peoria.

Game over. Final score: 2-0 Rivermen.

Shots: 32-27 Rivermen

Powerplays: CHI (0/3), PEO (0/2)

1st period scoring:

No scoring.

2nd period scoring:

PEO Murray 8 (unassisted) 16:47

3rd period scoring:

PEO Sonne 3 (Nigro) 3:30

Three Stars: (1) PEO Jake Allen, (2) PEO Andrew Murray, (3) PEO Brett Sonne

__________________________________________________________________

The three stars of the game were all Rivermen, but the standouts for the Wolves, IMO, were Gordon, Desbiens and Cannata.

Thanks for the updates! Nice to see Cannata get a start, sounds like he was solid in net.
