ballard burst vessel

27 posts in this topic

Ballard has been playing with a burst eye vessel. He says he hasn't felt any pain or vision loss. No doc or anythin but. Should we be concerned or give him time to heal. And let barker play a few games.

I noticed it in one of the CanucksTV interviews. His left eye looks like a horror flick. If it's not affecting his play, or if he's not in paint then let him compete. hope he gets better.

I did a little searching:

"... causes for a sub-conjunctival haemorrhage include high blood pressure, constipation, stress, coughing or sneezing excessively, and on rare occasions they can even be associated with blood clotting problems such as in people taking aspirin, anticoagulents or people who already have a history of blood clotting disorders.

Most of the time you will not need to take any action to get rid of the broken blood vessel in your eye, as much like a bruise it will gradually change colour and vanish over the next few days or weeks (depending on the severity of the bleed). It may take a little longer than a normal bruise to disappear because the conjunctiva is so thin that a certain amount of oxygen can still get to the blood."

I guess the only real concern is if it was caused by clotting. Get better Ballard! He is after all a far more superior defenseman than Barker or Alberts.

I burst a blood vessel in my eye from dry heaving when I had the flu. It really didn't feel like anything.

I had that happen once. I didn't even know it had happened until someone else asked me about it.

It shouldn't affect his play at all.

It's just like a bruise in your eye. Unless he has a condition that is causing it (high blood pressure, broken orbital bone, etc.) it shouldn't affect his play in the slightest.

Canucks legend "Sami Salo" is all I gotta say about it...

..he would laugh at the idea of taking a day of for a burst blood vessel.

They even took shattered his nut and he played a week later.

That's crazy.

A burst eye vessel is really painless... just needs time to heal. I've experienced this before, you don't really feel anything wrong only the way your eye looks.

I got the flu this NYE (I know, great timing) and popped a blood vessel from puking out my guts. It was the gnarliest looking thing, but didn't hurt or impair my vision in the slightest.

Ballard will be fine. As long as it's not fu*king pink eye. Ew.
