      Forum-specific Rules   07/11/2017

These are board specific rules for the Trades and Rumors forum designed to provide organization and a better experience for everyone. Please review these rules before posting new threads.
THREAD ETIQUETTE   1. Please search for an existing thread before posting. This forum can be very fast moving, so it's understandable if redundant threads are inadvertently posted. In such a case, please use the report feature to request removal of redundant threads.    2. Provide a clearly identifiable topic title so that users can readily understand the content. The title should include any and all teams involved, as well as player names or other personnel involved as appropriate.   3. All trades, signings, rumors and other news MUST include a linkable source. Simply posting the name of the source is not enough. Effort should also be made to copy and paste the full article, or at the very least the relevant portion of text from the source to the first post of the thread. Moderators may remove low-quality threads in favour of high-quality threads.

Affixed to the front of your title should be a label that identifies the type of transaction that is taking place. For all trades use [TRADE]. For all signings use [SIGNING]. For all waiver-wire transactions use [WAIVERS]. For all rumours use [RUMOUR].
For articles or news items that don't fit into the above categories, affix an appropriate label of your choice such as [NEWS], [ARTICLE] or [MISC].   4. When the status of a thread changes a new thread can be created. The new thread should reflect the change and help focus the discussion on current events. e.g. Someone may create a new thread when a rumor becomes a trades. The old thread will be locked by the moderating team.    5. Do not misrepresent the contents of your thread or post false trades or rumors. Trolling will result in a permanent suspension.

SOURCES   The following source types are considered INVALID. Any links to posts or threads on other message boards Any links to personal blogs Any news heard on the radio that does not have a link to an audio vault or podcast Any news seen on television that does not have a link to online video Any news spread by word of mouth
Additionally, certain sources may be be blacklisted due to poor credentials, clear traffic-mongering etc. Blacklisted sources will be posted here.
Thank you for your co-operation and please PM the Administrator or Moderators if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding this forum.

Agree. The only thing wrong with the bottom pair is cost. Smaller cap hit would be nice. Our top 4 is probably as good as any in the league.

As its playing out Gillis is looking stronger in waiting to deal Lou,and keeping him to showcase his talent will drive up the asking price,

Capitals make a ton of sense and would be great to see Luongo go to a team that can win him a cup like Philly or Washington, but I'm not sure what the Capitals can offer us that'll help us now and not hurt our cap for next season, I'd love Tom Wilson to be part of the deal with a 2013 1st round pick, but none of that helps us now, which Gillis seems to want.

Here's our problem;

Burrows at 4.5 Million a year is pretty hefty for third line duties, and I think Schroeder can be an awesome top 6 player, but lacking bottom 6. We need a big, two way center for the 3rd line.

Sedins-Kassian

Booth-Kesler-Burrows

Higgins-3rd Center-Hansen

Weise-Lapierre-Volpatti

Spares/Trade: Raymond or Higgins

I'm not sure what you mean by the way he's playing right now. It's four games into the season - I think he's been fine - and the lines have been experimental. HIggins is one of the last people I'd see as expendable. I'd like to have Clutterbuck, but I personally would use other assets.

Why does everyone forget Matt Hackett? They'll likely move away from Backstrom unless he wants to take less, then they can go with Harding, who won't be affected by MS enough in the immediate future to be an issue, and continue to bring along Hackett.

What's wrong with our D?

I don't see any defenseman us getting back knocking any of our top 4 out. And Ballard and Tanev have been a great bottom pair.

I think we need a good centerman to bolster the third line or a gritty winger. And we need an elite center prospect to shore up our depth down the middle for the future.

The very important point that you are missing is that we don't lack offense at all. We have been amongst the highest scoring teams in the league for the past several years. Our bread and butter is outscoring the opposition. It is simply the facts and not opinion.

With the exact same roster that is chock full of offense, we can't score goals in some of our playoff rounds. It is not that we don't have offence... it is that they are unable to make their offensive plays suddenly. You need to consider why that is. It is because they are played much more physically and don't have the room to make fancy, skilled plays.

The counter to that and the way to make room is to have more physical players... it is not to add another non-physical offensive player who will also not have room to make his plays. You have to build a balanced team that complements each other... not just try to throw the guys who score the most goals all together and hope for the best.

Our team is in need to a reasonably talented and very physical player on our 3rd line who is capable of playing meaningful minutes. Someone in the mold of a Chris Neil/Clutterbuck. He makes room for our skilled guys and has the added benefit of taking away room from the opposition's skilled players.

The other addition required to complement our existing guys is to find a very mean right hand D who punishes opposing forwards who want to dipsy doodle around our zone. If Ballard is the guy who dishes out the hardest hits on your D... you are in a little bit of trouble. I say that as someone who has been defending Ballard since he got here. He is doing everything he can to help the team but is a little miscast as our tough 3rd pairing guy.

Not much wrong with then aside from bring too small for the post season......we've been exposed on the back end every year in the playoffs as far as handling large forwards in front of our net or in the corners.

You do realize that the Canucks have won just as many Stanley Cups as the Leafs since 1969.

You do realize that the Canucks have had more city riots since that time.............................what exactly are you trying to prove?

Playing right now as in he has been invisible.

I hate to say it because I love him too but Higgins is very \a little overrated on these boards.

One of the few guys that can do nothing and get a free pass.

Higgins isn't bad for the cap hit. He's been a little injury prone over the past few years, but his point totals are usually .5pg. He gave us 18 goals in 71 games last year and he never hurts us defensively. He's had a slow start so far, but it's only been 4 games.

Higgins (while he isn't scoring) is still a pretty important piece of the playoff puzzle..he's got speed, a good two way player, can play any style and tends to be able to fight through checks. He can slot up and down the line up so is important if players go down in the playoffs..

I actually think you're not giving him enough credit for what his role is. Don't forget every player has a role on the Nucks. I actually like how he can slide up and down the lines better than Hansen. I love Hansen but think he is a GREAT third liner and belongs there, he doesn't belong on the second or first.

Whereas, while Higgins isn't a great third liner, he's a GOOD 2/3 and can play four if he has too...so he's valuable.

Easy now.

18, 25, 43, +11 last year while 1/100th off of facing the strongest quality of competition on the Canucks last year, while getting only 46% offensive zone starts, playing third line minutes with a rookie center, and still managing a positive relative corsi on a deep President's team.

If he's rated highly on these boards, it's because he's an outstanding two way hockey player who has been an absolute steal for the Canucks.

A few games without a point amidst a team shaking off rust and shuffling the lines nightly is all it takes to earn the tag 'invisible'?

Quit talking Clutterbuck. Minny has a goalie and a very good one at that. They're not in the market for Luongo nor would Gillis trade within the division.
