Fair, yes, but I just don't feel as if my opinion has changed. I liked the pick when it happened. His size doesn't concern me at all.

That's surprising seeing as you were mocking him earlier today by saying he was 5'3.

Can't see a fit because of salary, but Backstrom is a dandy talent who is struggling more than Ovi... If they want out of one of their big contracts and to make room for MoJo? But they don't need what salary we need to shed...

"Struggling"...he has 7 points in 9 games.

He's also gotten 374 career points in 374 career games, and he's 25 years old. Don't think they'll be trading him.

It was a joke. He's tiny. I don't care. Hell, I'd like Tyler Ennis on my team too, and he looks to be about 8 years old. Patrick Kane looks to be about 160 lbs. Would anyone not want him on their team?

Unfortunately, we're in a position where we need to get rid of 1 goaltender before the start of next season, with this knowledge bringing down the value of each goaltender with each passing day that we keep both. It's a game of chicken and I simply don't see how the bids will increase as we hold on to both guys.

The team that gets more desperate as time passes is us, not the other side, which continues to lower our bargaining position.

Of course we do.

Luongo is the one that will go not Schneider. Schneider value isn't going down because of this, infact it will take a big overpayment to get him away from us, we can hold onto both for the time being but in the offseason Luongo has to go.

Bob McKenzie tweeted something earlier that re-assures me that Cory is going nowhere.

I agree, Schroeder's stockyness is what is going to allow him to stick despite his size. He is so strong and so strong his skates for his size, and having the elusiveness, speed and acceleration he does will allow him to fair fine in the battles, then his high end skill & and high hockey IQ will shine through.

After all the proposals you've poopooed, you just valued Luongo in the same range as the vast majority of them.
Not saying I disagree (although Mojo would not be my choice), but I think you are starting to value him closer to where he should be.

Of course is true value as a goaltender is higher than the offers I have proposed, but unfortunatly certain circumstances lower it.

This deal is great for us, a young player in Orlov who is basically Tanev. and Johansson is what Cody was last year. Connaution is still a quality prospect but has struggled, it doesnt mean he is a bust, but atleast the Caps will get a replacement for Orlov.

bob mckenzie said on tv that the canucks brass were at yale on saturday to see some prospects play, matt beattie who plays for yale and possibly some college free agents and that them being at the washington game was just a matter of circumstance. They will also go to another game ( i think he said NYI/devils) before heading home.)

exactly.........I also have to believe that it's do or die for McPhee this season. He's made players the fall guy, coaches the fall guy......his head is on the block this season. I have to think he's kicking a lot of tires regarding goalies. Maybe it's Leonis who's saying no to Lu?

Fair point, he's one of the longest serving GM's in the league and he doesn't have a Cup to help keep him there. It's only so long before ownership wonders if it's the one constant they've had this whole time that's prevented this team from growing enough to get further than they have rather than regress.

bob mckenzie said on tv that the canucks brass were at yale on saturday to see some prospects play, matt beattie who plays for yale and possibly some college free agents and that them being at the washington game was just a matter of circumstance. They will also go to another game ( i think he said NYI/devils) before heading home.)

This makes some more sense. It's not exactly a quick drive from Washington to Connecticut, but it at least explains why they're in the area. It looks like Yale had a game the night before (Feb 2).

On the flip side, it begs the question: What were Gillis and Gilman doing at that game?

They were in Washington because they had been scouting a forward at Yale. He's 6'4 and has pretty good stats. Can't remember how to spell his last name but he attended our prospects camp in 2011.

The Yale game Gillis & Gillman attended was on Saturday night. McKenzie said they got on a train to Washington afterwards.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

Did a little reading on him and he had a good season last year after attending our camp (19g, 14a in 35 games). He attended both Pittsburgh and Edmonton's camps this summer and has 12g, 11a in 22 games this year.

So unrelated to Luongo, but you never know what interest they might drum up while on their little road trip.

Just offering an alternative, to suggest that Lu is going not Schneider.

Also, Washington might not be interested at the moment, but they have thought about it and the longer this drags on the more they think about it. And the more serious of a possibility Washington becomes.

Yeah I did too. Read that exact same article.

6'4 215 and had PPG last season, and is having PPG so far this season.

He's someone I would like us to pick up, looks promising.

Not wanting to derail the thread from Luongo, but I agree, so long as they don't see anything of particular concern. I could see why we maybe didn't sign him in 2011, but he likely got a pretty good look from the Pens and the Oil this summer after his last season.

Schneider and his agent are becoming impatient.

His agent wants Luongo gone now.

http://www.vancouver...7331/story.html

That's an overstatement, that Luit is impatient or wants Luongo gone now. They're hoping for sooner rather than later, and a reasonable amount of starts while they have the tandem, but that's about it.

"Our concern is we were hoping that this would be the year that Cory would play 75 per cent of the games," Liut said in a phone interview Monday from his Michigan office.

"We are only interested in resolution, we are not going to get into the finger-pointing game and to that end you have to take a step back and you have to give them latitude to make a business decision."
...
What does concern Liut is the possibility that Luongo continues to get the lion's share of the starts. Luongo was scheduled to make his fourth straight start Monday night against the Edmonton Oilers.

"If they are both there for the entire season, and it's a 48-game season, and Roberto plays 40 games, that's a disaster," Liut said. "That's an extreme and I don't think that's going to happen, but certainly the sooner the better.

"Vancouver has a decision to make with their goaltending, everybody knows that. We don't need to add more to it than that. Everyone wants it resolved and if it can get resolved that will be better for everybody."
...
Schneider and Luongo have both been praised for how they have handled a rather awkward situation and Liut said his client is mentally tough enough to deal with it.

"He's intelligent and understands the situation," said Liut, who added that he has heard nothing to suggest that the Canucks could possibly be shopping Schneider.

"I haven't had that conversation with them, but 10 months ago when all this started that was within the realm of possibility and I can assure you that whatever happens between now and the end of whenever this is resolved, nothing will surprise me," he said.

"In the meantime, Vancouver's got lots of goaltending."
