The Kassian-CoHo deal

It was a win-win for both teams.

Vancouver had great depth at centre, but Hodgson had too much potential to be stuck behind Sedin and Kesler. For good reason, he wanted to be put in a situation where he could be relied on more offensively, pad his stats, and receive a fair paycheck when his contract came to term. Buffalo needed a young centre with potential to fill the void that the oft injured Connolly left and the departed Derek Roy provided.

Buffalo, on the other hand, didn't have a huge need for Kassian; at least, more than the Canucks needed. They have a few bodies that can be thrown around to protect their star players already. The aquisition of Ott helps that even more. Could the Sabres had benefited from keeping Kassian? Absolutely. But they had a more pressing need for a player like Hodgson.

Both teams win.
