Lupul Out - Broken Forearm.

17 posts in this topic

TO's Joffrey Lupul suffered a broken forearm Wednesday, James Mirtle of the Globe & Mail reports.

(Updated 1/23/13)

It's a tough blow for the Maple Leafs, as they will now be without Joffrey Lupul's services for an extended period. He was hit on the arm by a shot from teammate Dion Phaneuf on Wednesday. An exact timetable for Lupul's recovery isn't available at the moment, but look for Clarke MacArthur to step into the first line until he's back.

Well that pretty much does it. Leafs are eliminated from play-offs just a few days into the season. Is there an NHL award for being first in that category?

I didn't picture Lupul being effective under Carlyle anyway. 3gp 0g 0a this season. 2gp 0g 0a last season, before getting hurt. That's 5 games played, two bigtime injuries for Lupul since Randy came in last March.

Lupul's preference of playing style doesn't mesh well with Carlyle's coaching style. But Lupul still had to cash in on his career year. Good for him in being able to secure that contract.

TO's playoff hopes for this season probably didn't revolve around Lupul.

Not surprising that he would get injured already. That's TO's luck for ya

This comes just days after he signed a 5yr, $5.25mil per extension. People were questioning whether that salary and term were deserved, or whether it was a significant risk, given his long history of injuries. Last season was a career one for him, but even that was just 66 games long.

Well, it appears that his 'band-aid boy' status has not been lifted with the new contract.

You're right. This injury is a freak one.

It would be his lengthly injury history that would have him classified as a band-aid boy. Everything from seperated shoulder to back surgery to ankle sprains to concussions to abdominal strains.

But what's ironic about my 'he doesn't play well under Carlyle' argument is that one of his only healthy seasons was played under Carlyle.

Perhaps this was the 'domino' Gillis was waiting on since it could almost be predicted that Lupul would get hurt?! Quick, someone hurry up and make that proposal I mentioned!

Sucks they lose their top scoring forward but they've got enough depth to cover him for a couple months..

JvR - Grabovski - Kessel

Kulemin - Kadri - MacArthur/Bozak

MacArthur/Bozak - Steckel - Komarov

Orr - McClement - Brown

Not bad but it's better than having Kessel out right?

Sure. And mention it in the Luongo thread, perhaps.
