The Canucks have a bad habit with unsuccessfully grooming young small forwards. Raymond, shirokov, Schroeder are busts who haven't lived up to their potential!

Remember cliff running, Pavel bure, brenden Morrison?

Why can't the Canucks develop small forwards who live up to their hype I.e gionta, parise, st.louis, Sullivan, p.kane etc...

Look at kassian he's proving why size matters. Take a hint management of the Vancouver Canucks, size matters!

Kesler was lucky to score 20 this year since the injury to Morrison allowed him to do so.

I doubt Kesler would ever break 15 goals in his career again.

Our last "smallish" first round pick was Schroeder. (You know, the guy you call "a bust" after a grand total of one NHL game) Since then, we've been drafting guys like Jensen and Gaunce.

But hey, I'm sure Gillis and Gilman appreciate the "advice"...

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

I see a new level of stupidity has been reached on CDC.

Our esteemed OP begins by asking why we can't develop small forwards. Refers to Raymond (who is still gainfully employed in the NHL), Schroeder (who has played one game on a team that the lineup is hard to crack) and Shirokov as busts. Clearly Shirokov didn't work out mostly due to his own poor work ethic and conditioning rather than our development capabilities. He got a shot but wasn't willing to do what it takes to be an NHLer. For those of us that know a little about hockey weren't overly shocked as we didn't predetermine that he was going to be the next "Russian Rocket. Then let's ramble off the names of a bunch of successful small players then tells us to look at Kassian because size matters.

Thanks for the tips Mr. Contradiction.

Might as well join the rabble in condemning your post.

I wouldn't say a second round pick in his sixth NHL year (Raymond) could ever be called a bust.

I wouldn't say a first round pick who's only played one game, and played it well (Schroeder) could yet be called a bust. I'm not even entirely convinced Shirokov could be called a bust, just a disappointment.

I dont think its stupid to question Schroeders size. When you watch him skate & move the puck there is no doubt his skills are pretty sharp. I am routing him on as much as his strongest supporters. But the jury is still out on weather he can use his speed & ability to continue to get into the right areas to be effective. It is not going to be crashing the net. More like slipping under the arm pits. Also if he gets in those nasty spots the sneaky way is he gonna' be rugged enough to endure the constant punishment from BIG angry D men. Right now he's kinda' floating under the radar but having some success will change things because score 10 goals in a short while & now you become an assignment. & that is where you prove your going to last. When you have to keep changing your game to keep up with them studying your moves on video. If he's a smart player that is able to do that plus durrable then he will survive.I hope he is.

If Schroeder was something like Ronning then I'd be very happy with him.

I like Cliff. He was a very smart player who used all of his assets to his best advantage. He scored 20+ goals in 4 out of the 6 seasons he played with teh Canucks, 5 if you count the partial season he split between the Canucks and the Blues.

regards,
G.

Actually no, Raymond scored 25 goals, then had an absolute garbage year in which he destroyed his back at the end of.

Nice try though.

I wouldn't say a guy who scored 25 goals and 53 points is a bust, either. He got hurt. Now he's back and just scored a great goal.
