What do you think Tanev is worth? His contract is up this year.

I think it would be interesting to see CDC's consensus vs. what Mike Gillis ends up doing. Obviously you can change your vote throughout the year until he has signed and then we can see how close CDC was to predicting it.

Tanev's stat lines last year:

NHL reg. season: 38 games - 2 goals, 5 assists, + 4.
NHL post season: 5 games - 0 goals, 0 assists, 0

2011-2012:

NHL reg. season: 25 games, 0 goals, 2 assists, +10
NHL post-season: 5 games, 0 points, +0
AHL reg. season: 34 games, 0 goals, 14 assists, +6

Not a penny over 1.5 m, unless he shows stunning growth.

Unless he starts producing offense, he's going to be in the $1M to $1.5M range. He's a reliable 3rd pair defenseman who doesn't really offer much more than that. He's not a shutdown guy, he's not a point producer, he's not a physical threat, etc.

Being an RFA, he'll probably get a bridge deal and the opportunity to prove he's worth more.

I'm guessing 3.2/2 years - 1.6 per.

Alzner got 1.285 though, and with a new CBA there won't be too too much inflation. So maybe 1.45-1.5 is more accurate. Tanev composure is unreal though.

I agree with that, I think he'll sign most likely a 2 year deal.

Ya, you're all in the ball park. Young D-men generally get more than young forwards with similar talent (Subban, Del Zotto, Carlsson as recent examples), I'll say a max of 1.8m for Tanev, but knowing MG he'll keep it down to 1.3-1.5 on a 3 year deal.

I like the idea of the topic, though I'm not sure how much debate something so cut and dry will create.

Maybe none, but it's interesting that there's so much discourse about how a bunch of only idiots are on CDC, so it's interesting to look back at what people though, because I don't think that's the case - w/some exceptions.

He would get more on this next contract, if he could get his shot off the ice.

My guess is...

2.6 M / 2 yrs (1.3 M cap hit).

I wouldn't give him more than 2 years term and 1.8 cap hit.

And if just had the confidence to shoot more. Like Don Cherry says, sometimes you just need to take a wrist shot.

In 57 NHL games, Tanev has had just 33 shots.

I think he will take a reasonable contract, because market value will drop for average players.

I say 2 years at 1.25

Wouldn't mind paying for Tanev, he's gonna be a serious player in our future if we let him.

I'm a huge Tanev fan... wouldn't be upset at anything under $2M really as long as it's more than one year.

I'll guess somewhere in the area of 2 years, $3 million ($1.5M/year).

1 million. He's a solid player, but he'll take less. He doesn't have much negotiating power. Tanev is reliable, but doesn't really hit, can't shoot, and doesn't put up points. His strengths are being in the right place and a good first pass.

I love him as a good 3rd pair player. But a guy like Fayne got 1.3 million. Tanev is not on that level yet. He'll get less.

We're lucky he doesn't produce much offence or we'd have to pay the guy some big bucks.

2 years at 1.6 mil per.

Stat line this year:

NHL reg. season: 3 games, 0 points, -1

Plus player. That counts. Not only offfensive stats. Steadily working his way in to a permanent role on deep canucks D. 1.5-1.75..

3 or 4 year dear in the low 1 million range would be fair. He's young and still within range for a better contract afterwards.
