Vancouver Man Killed With Sword

Brings back memories.

Back in the mid to late 1970's and early 1980's sword and machete attacks were fairly common in Asian gang disputes as well as using other martial arts weapons such as nunchuks and knives and cleavers of course. Early one Saturday morning I attended the aftermath of a gang brawl (the Viet Chin and the Red Eagles had tangled apparently over girlfriend of one of the gang members) in a Chinese restaurant downtown on Granville - blood everywhere but no fatalities. And of course none of the injured or putative participants could remember anything that happened and witnesses were too terrified to talk.

As time went on associated Asian gangs from the US, principally San Francisco began bringing in guns and the violence quotient was upped as swords and machetes were put aside.
