With the provincial election coming up and this being a forum partially for politics, I wanted to see who was voting for who and why.

Esp. interesting to see the diff. between hockey fans & the general population.

If you don't want to share.. then don't. Keep it private..

I'll start the discussion off with two questions:

1. Who are you voting for?
2. Do you support the BCNDP's motion to ban partisan government ads?

Edit: Remember.. attack ideas not users..

I don't understand politics and I won't be one to pretend to do so. But that one guy has the last name "Dix".

He gets my vote.

Haha.

I know you're kidding around, but it brings up a serious point about titles...

Will the Liberals get votes because the word 'liberal' is assoc. w/ liberty? Despite the fact they're more like the Federal Conservatives. Will Jane Sterk be cast of as a radical because the Green Party of BC started off that way? When people don't do research, titles & names often to make a big difference IMO.

right now I don't support either and I still remember what the NDP did last time they were in power.

What I do know is there is no way in hell I would ever vote for Dix. He's as crooked and deceitful as they come.

By the way, the most recent study shows:

A November Angus Reid poll, showed this:

NDP with 47 % of the pop vote.
Libs with 29
Cons with 12
Greens with 9
Other with 2

A December G&M article stated these stats:

NDP with 49
Libs with 30
Cons with 13
Green with 7
Other with 2

NDP and Libs are often looked at as 'lesser of two evils'.

Have you considered voting Green as an alternative party with new ideas? They won't win, but solidarity would be a good step for them & like you want a change from these two parties.

I'm not advocating either one, but I find myself agreeing with you and wondering about an alternative and do believe in ecological justice.

To be fair, neither the Cons or the Greens have had a chance in recent history or ever.

Christy Clark/Libs and the Cons support similar ideas of 'free market', but obviously Cummins is untested whereas Clark has shown her true colours.

Another big election issue is the Northern Gateway Pipeline:

Libs are not for or against it, but have 5 targets that have to be met and they'll let it through. Christy Clark also is getting funded by Oil Company money, so you can bet on what will happen if she wins.

NDP are against Northern Gateway.

Green are against Northern Gateway.

Cons, I have no idea. But based on Conservative ideologies, they're probably all for it..

Many people don't like her and the Liberals, because since they took over:

1. BC has had the highest CHILD poverty rate in Canada since Campbell became premier, except this year they moved up to 2nd.
2. She has enforced just about zero environmental regulation in the Natural Resource sector, esp. mining.
3. Corporate taxes are "too low" and because of that, people feel the burden on their own taxes.
4. In Victoria, the Liberals have failed to have a good dialogue with transit drivers and many buses have been cancelled.
5. Tuition rates and student loans have soared under the Liberals.
6. Some people didn't like that she said that Victoria has a 'sick culture'.

Those are 6 reasons I think of off the top of my head.

I can't stand either the NDP or the Liberals. That said I dislike my current MLA more than either party. Should he be running again I will be forced to vote NDP because in the end a vote for any other party just helps him get re-elected. If he isn't then I really don't know what I'll do.

Ah yes, that's the worst situation, I found that one to be the case in my riding last year. The lesser of evils seems to be the case so often in Cdn. politics lately.

Clark declares natural gas ‘green energy’ as long as it’s used for LNG

There's seven now.

I'm about to get my citizenship this here Wednesday coming up, and I know I won't vote for her.

Every election brings home the realization that we live in a faux democratic nation. Voting for a representative because of party affiliation is what allows those who are anti-thetical to the very idea of leadership, to obtain a leadership role. Even if one of these hopeful yet gruesomely unqualified individuals gets rejected by the people, he/she can still be appointed to a leadership role if a party wins. How is that democratic? How are party whips democratic? How are parties democratic? I am a proponent of vote for the best quality rep regardless of party affiliation, the only problem is when certain issues force the rep to compromise his/her integrity or ideals to keep in line with party mandates. It's this influence that truly undermines democracy and IMO accurately paints most politicians as the gutless sewer eels they are, selling integrity for party endorsement. Who wants any of these people as our leaders?

When universities get substandard lab equipment because there's a "tuition cap," it doesn't matter how many students get to go if the end result is that they all come out dumber than the current crop. If anyone was around for the 2001 transition, you'd remember how labs were working with outdated, broken technology.

The first election that I'm eligible to vote in, and the two front-runners are as bad as they can get.
