With this shortened season and injuries bound to be in abundance, if you were GMMG what changes do you make for this Vancouver team? Here are your options:
  • Trade Roberto Luongo for draft picks/prospects. The future of this Canucks franchise is, arguably, not looking too bright. We do have good athletes but no (as of yet) top tier talent. Do you trade Luongo and get prospects for the future of the franchise?
  • Trade Luongo for a forward/defense/goaltender combination. Many have said it. The time for the Canucks is now. Do you trade Luongo for some depth talent in hopes that they can help bring the Canucks a successful playoff run for their first cup?
  • Keep Luongo until trade deadline. There is nothing wrong with 2 very good goaltenders staying here. If one under performs, the other can easily pick up the slack. Do you wait to see what treasures could surface at the deadline?
  • Keep Luongo this season and hope for return during the off season. Depending on other teams and their scenarios, we could potentially have better offers on the table come the end of the season. Do you wait and potentially lose a better deal? Or do you make people climb over each other offering everything but a sacrificial goat for Luongo?
  • Keep Luongo and do the unthinkable. Trade Schneider for some better talent. Luongo is still a very good goaltender and I can see him being like Marty Brodeur and playing stellar into his 40's. Then its all up to Eddy Lack to take the helm of this franchise.
  • Make your own suggestion. How do YOU determine the fate of this franchise?
I know there are plenty of these kind of posts but I wanted to see peoples suggestions first hand to determine how our fans see our team and our concerns moving forward. Please post away!

If we can see the same kinda game that we've seen from the canucks the last two games for the rest of the two games, and everyone continues to play at a high level, I'm 100% sure we need to pursue prospects/picks. If we're inconsistent after, we could move those for anything we need.

I agree. This questions is not something that can be answered, realistically, this second. How this season happens is basically the catalyst to what Gillis needs to recognize going forward. For argument sake, what is your "gut feeling"?

Trade Lu for future assets, possibly another center aswell, (depth guy, perhaps that can slot anywhere in the bottom 9, ex: maybe Santorelli or Perreault) Although I want prospects/picks.

Blow up the team. 5-0 should have been 10-0. Two losses in first four games, this team should be playing in the WHL.

If I were GMMG I'd listen to what other teams have to offer first before making a trade. In my opinion I'd keep both Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider until at least the off season.
But if I were to make a trade I'd deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs and trade:

To Toronto: Roberto Luongo, 2nd Round draft pick (2015), 3rd Round draft pick (2014)
To Vancouver: Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson, 1st Round draft pick (2014)

This most likely won't happen but it's just what I think I would do.

I'd say either #4 (Keep Luongo this season and hope for return during the off season) or #1.

I'd like to have both goalies for the playoffs, but at the same time, I'd really like to have some great prospects.

Wow I wouldn't want any of those.

Zubrus is a Devil and will stay there. He's what 34? And he hasn't looked that good this year.

Fedetenko is also 33 or 34, and while i'm usually a big fan of the soft spoken 3rd liner, he has been absolutely atrocious this season. Watch flyers goals against, he's almost always on the ice, his check getting away, bouncing off him and in etc.

Morrow is the only one I'd like. Obviously, It would have been sweet to have Morrow lets say 4 years ago. He's only getting older as well. If Morrow is the big piece coming back for Luongo, then we're not getting younger. We may get some young pieces back, but definitely not top caliber players.

I'd much rather see the MAIN piece be either a high first round for this season's draft, or a player under 26 who's developed well and fits what we need.

Trade a bunch of good draft picks for a marginally overrated superstar.

can't I be aquilini instead, so i can ride this group for a couple years, then axe gillis and hire dale tallon? then he can trade away major pieces of the core while rebuilding with high picks and savvy trades for good players under 25.

While I like this, it's unfeasible. We are still 2-3 years away from cloning a Kassian. Not to mention the incubation period. Even with accelerated maturing the Kassians wouldn't be ready for another 3 years.

Only Draft picks. They can be used to acquire specific players from any team,or used at the draft to move positions or used in a strong draft to restock.

Definitely go with option 3. Wait until the deadline to see which teams need goal-tending help, see what offers are made for him and pick the best offer from the team's standpoint but don't trade him unless it's a worthwhile deal (i.e. no cap dumps for Lu). If other teams want to make the playoffs, make them pay to get Lu. We don't need to move him this season anyways, plus there are no visible holes in the roster to fill through this trade. Also should make other teams mortgage their future in prospects and high picks to get him. This is an auction, not a fire sale!

I think Lu should be traded at the deadline. So far there are a handful of "good" teams that are really underperforming like NYR, MIN, LAK, etc. Not saying many of those teams would want Lu, but I can see a lot of GMs panicking around the deadline when their team isn't performing as they projected it to and overpaying for Lu.

Unless something comes up great this season. Keep Luongo for playoffs at least. And then offseason, for a player probably D-men/or center and prospects/high picks.
