Paul Ryan Heaps Praise On Hillary: If She Were President, ‘We’d Have Fixed This Fiscal Mess By Now’

Appearing on NBC’s Meet the Press this afternoon, former GOP vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) praised Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and lamented that she did not win the presidency in 2008, as he believes that would lead to a better chance for deficit reduction today than under President Obama.

Host David Gregory showed Rep. Ryan video of Sec. Clinton speaking with him at the inaugural luncheon, which Ryan characterized as “chumming it up” over a variety of personal topics.

The congressman then praised Clinton: “Look, if we had a [Hillary] Clinton presidency, if we had Erskine Bowles as Chief of Staff of the White House or President of the United States, I think we would have fixed this fiscal mess by now. That’s not the kind of presidency we’re dealing with right now.”

Asked how he thinks about a 2016 presidential run, Ryan quipped, “I don’t.”

“I think it’s just premature,” he explained. “I’ve got a job to do. I represent Wisconsin, I’m chairman of the budget committee at the time we have a fiscal crisis.”

Bernie Goldberg To O’Reilly: Journalists ‘Slobbering’ Over Hillary Clinton Lack ‘Embarrassment Gene’

by Josh Feldman | 8:50 pm, January 25th, 2013

Bill O’Reilly opened his show tonight reacting to how softly Hillary Clinton was handled by the media following her testimony on Benghazi earlier this week. O’Reilly and guest Bernard Goldbergagreed that the media is fawning over Clinton just as much as they have fawned over President Obama for the last four years. Goldberg told O’Reilly that it ultimately does not matter how many people raise cain over this because journalists today lack an “embarrassment gene.”

O’Reilly touted comments made by Rolling Stone reporter Michael Hastings to highlight just how sycophantic the media has been in covering the Obama administration, and this wee in particular, Clinton’s Benghazi testimony. After showing clips of the nightly newscasts covering Clinton’s testimony, O’Reilly quipped, “All we need is the theme from Rocky, right?”

Goldberg told O’Reilly that four years ago, the media “fell in love” with Obama and were practically “slobbering over him,” and now in anticipation of 2016 the media is getting an early start “slobbering” over Clinton. He admitted that it does not matter what anyone on the right thinks, because many journalists these days were born without an “embarrassment gene.” Goldberg cited ABC News’Martha Raddatz, who gave Clinton credit for saying she takes full responsibility, and argued that a more skeptical reporter would not have simply accepted it.

O’Reilly then brought up Obama and Clinton’s joint interview on this Sunday’s 60 Minutes with Steve Kroft. O’Reilly minced no words in declaring that Kroft is America’s “last hope” for people to get answers on Benghazi. Goldberg expressed hope that Kroft would ask the right questions, suggesting that he should ask Obama if he feels embarrassed by how much the media slobbers over him.

Coming from someone who "washes" clean dishes by rinsing them under water, I don't know if Hilary should take this as much of a compliment.

Fox Analyst Says GOP ‘Looked Like Weenies’ During Clinton’s Benghazi Hearings

By Ben Armbruster on Jan 24, 2013 at 10:17 am

Secretary of State Hilary Clinton forcefully pushed back against Republican theatrics during yesterday Capitol Hill hearings on the Benghazi attacks, compelling conservatives and right-wing media to — predictably — demonize her.

But one right-wing pundit saw it a bit differently. Fox News military analyst Lt. Col. Ralph Peters (ret.) — who has certainly not been known for his affection for progressives and liberalism — praised Clinton’s performance. “I came away with deeper respect for Hillary Clinton’s bureaucratic lawyerly brilliance,” Peters said. “I mean she was just tough and good and the Republicans looked like weenies:”

PETERS:
Hillary mops floor with congressmen and senators
. She was as James Rosen pointed out, she was prepared. She had it down. She had answers — anticipatory answers ready.

And the congressmen and senators didn’t do their homework. They made speeches again as James Rosen pointed out. They — their questions were ill focused. They went down the red herring road with Susan Rice as you pointed out.

McCain on whether he’ll oppose challenges to increased border enforcement: ‘Duh.’

By Chris Moody, Yahoo! News | The Ticket5 hrs ago

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/mccain-whether-ll-oppose-challenges-increased-border-enforcement-212915908--election.html

John McCain heard your question, and he thinks it's really dumb.

While the Arizona Republican senator fielded questions on Capitol Hill on Tuesday, a day after he joined a bipartisan group of senators to announce a blueprint for comprehensive immigration reform, one reporter asked how he would respond if the proposed provision that requires increased border enforcement were challenged.

He would oppose it, he said. "Duh."

As part of the outline of principles for an immigration overhaul unveiled on Monday by McCain and seven other senators, any new overhaul would require enhanced border security before illegal immigrants already in the country could begin to seek a path to citizenship. Republicans have insisted that it be a key component of any large immigration bill.

Listen to the exchange between McCain and the reporter here:

Reporter: "How do you feel about not tying border security to citizenship?"

McCain: "What do you mean 'not tying it'?"

Reporter: "Basically your plan..."

McCain: "Didn't you see the press conference? Did you happen to miss it? What do you mean, 'not tying'?"

Reporter: "But if somebody were to come out with a statement saying..."

McCain: "If somebody were to come out that's in contradiction to what we said, we'd say we disagree with it. Duh."
