Canucks 8 D-Man
Alex Edler- 5 Million
Jason Garrison- 4.6 Million
Kevin Bieska- 4.6 Million
Dan Hamhuis- 4.5 Million
Keith Ballard-4.2 Million
Andrew Alberts-1,225,000 Million
Chris Tanev- 900,000
Cam Barker- 700,000 (48 Games)

Im Certain the Canucks pay there d man the most in the league. But Bieska, Ballard and maybe Garrison arent worth that much at all.

Bieska is between a 2.5 to 3.5 million
Ballard- 2 to 3 Million
Garrison- 3 to 4 Million

So is our D- Man Overpaid?

Solution is to trade lu and ballard for a key 2nd line forward and prospects/Picks

Lu and Ballard cap= is just over 9.5 Million in Cap.

Edler is still at 3.25 for this season.

Garrison hit the jackpot after 1 good season. Hopefully he is not a one hit wonder.

Bieksa is a bit overpaid and Ballard is definitely overpaid

Pretty sure Hamhuis, Edler and maybe Garrison would've all gotten $6M+ on the open market...

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Averaging around 3.5-4M per year for each defenseman isn't bad considering what they would actually get from other teams in the NHL.

Hamhuis will be able to net at least 5M from another team. Edler definitely 6M+. Bieksa around 5M+. Garrison would've definitely notched at least 5.5M+ from other teams in the offseason. And Ballard was already signed at 4.2M so we couldn't do anything about that. But he would at least get 3M. Alberts was already at 1.25M from Carolina so we had no control over it but he would fetch close to 1M.

Are our defensemen overpaid? Not really. Aside from maybe a couple, we're getting a great deal from all of our defensemen salary wise and they chose to turn down more money to get a chance at winning the Cup. Tanev will definitely demand minimum 1-1.5M when he has to re-sign.

Certainly going to be our #1 defensemen. Give him a couple more years to improve his game and he'll be our new and improved version of Matthias Ohlund in no time

We were 5th in July, not sure where things stand as of now:

Personally I'm just sick of the Edler-on-the-right-side experiment. We're wasting time with our best potential D.

IMO, Lou untradeable at this time ( only had 7 months to work a deal) and Ballard contract too much for others, . MGMG has painted himself into a corner.

Edler is overpaid. To be the highest paid defenceman on the team and make mistakes like he did tonight........Just glad we have him signed, so that we can trade him come the off season if he remains this inconsistent.

So we win 1 game 5-0 and our team is awesome. We don't need to add anything.

Next game we lose 4-1, and suddenly every player sucks and is overpaid.

Can't say I'm surprised though. The bottom line is, their powerplay converted twice and ours couldn't produce anything on 7 attempts.

You can't win games if you don't win the special teams battles. This game was more than winable. The D wasn't teh problem tonight, it was a team loss from top to bottom.

Our D-men are not getting paid anything above market value, that's for sure. We're certainly not dishing out anything crazy like Minny did for Suter.

KB3 is one of my fav Canucks, but honestly, I think he does not worth 4.5M......maybe 4M at most.

Well if some of these guys always played at the level they have for most of the start of this season, then yes some are overpaid. But they are still shaking the rust and finding their game. I think the price tag is pretty accurate for the potential on the blue line when everyone is in mid season form.

On a personal level I've always enjoyed KB3, he's hilarious. However, IMHO, I think he's not nearly as good of a d-man as Hamhuis.

Edler keeps proving that he's a good goal scorer but not much of a defender. How about we try him as a center? :P

I've been impressed with Ballard this year and of course, Tanev.

Garrison... too early to tell for me. He hasn't bone-headed out too much like KB3, but he hasn't really done much either.

Ballard and Tanev are the only one's showing their worth right now.

in the big picture though:

- Ballard is overpaid
- Bieksa is overpaid
- Tanev is a steal
- Hamhuis is a steal
- Edler's current salary (3.25) is a steal
- Edler's next salary is fair
- Garrison.. Eh perhaps overpaid, Jury is still out.

Don't worry atleast we aren't Calgary who dished out over 5 Million for Wideman and Tampa who gave Carle that terrible contract. Even look at the deal Buffalo handed to Ehrhoff the offseason prior.

Things could be worse.

"Bieska is between a 2.5 to 3.5 million" :picard:

I think 3 - 3.75 is what he is really worth

He doesn't play like anything over 4 though, way too inconsistent.

Edler as a forward....why not bieksa too
almost be worth trying out.

Sedin-Sedin-Kassian
Raymond-Schroeder-Bieksa
Edler-Burrows-Hansen
Higgins-Volpatti-Wiese

Tanev-Ballard
Hamhuis-Garrison
Barker-Vandermeer

ridiculous but i almost wouldnt mind seeing that lineup for a game.

Bieksa could certainly be that power forward people keep asking for around here. Doesn't really have the hands though.

So who moves back to play his position on the blueline? Higgins?
