I agree, just because he can shoot hard doesn't mean he should be making that kind of money. His passing and skating look pretty weak also. If he wasn't good at defending then what would he be good at...?

I like giving players the benefit of the doubt. I was a critic of Raymond as many people were but I also figured with one good off season completely healthy he'd come around to his former self and I'm happy for him that he has. One post I agreed King of the BS with is offering Garrison such a big contract after one season. It could either work out for us or blow up in our face. It's not really working out right now because 4.6 for 6 is too much to offer a guy to just play sound defensively, even though he's had some absolutely brutal give aways this season. I'm sure Garrison's offensive game will come around eventually, most players do. Of course if this team was losing then his struggle would be magnified big time

Garrison needs to learn to clear guys in front, another brutal no play by garrison in front of his own net, wings goal game tied.

Give the man a break. He's a +6 which is best for a defense on our team.

Yup.
He's had a tough game but this hasn't been the norm this season.

I don't get many opportunities to watch many Canucks games because of work, but watching today Garrison reminds me of Rome slow and useless. I really feal Brian Campbell had a huge success to Garrison last year in Florida, this does not look like a D who can carry himself, rather he looks like he was carried by a far more superior player.

Garrison and Suter need to send Weber and Campbell royalty checks.

Even before he signed I knew he'd be half the player here, Gillis overrates people too much. Especially after one good offensive season...

Pros
-hard shot
-solid defensively

Cons
-slow (probably slowest on team)
-bad passer
-terrible accuracy

It's almost halfway through the season now.

He seems more like a 3.5 mill defenseman instead of a 5 million dollar one like I knew when he was signed.

Alberts in his first game looked better then Garrison has all year imo.

Garrison sucks. Bench him and give Barker a shot next game out.

So far, this looks like another bad move by MG. Should have kept Salo.

The Canucks have possibly two D men that can play better than mediocre defense, Hamhuis and Tanev.

And Ehrhoff. Thankfully (for GM MG's sake) Ballard is playing better this year.

P.S
Does Edler only practice his offensive skills in practice? I wonder if he still knows how to play defensively? Atrocious all year in his own zone.

Edler should be playing on his left side. This right side experiment has gone on long enough

I always felt Ballard was a good player in Florida he was someone who could carry himself, but because he was in AVs doghouse for so long he was put out as a bad player, which I never thought he was.

Edler has always been like that though, which I'm kinda shocked that people haven't seen that before. Edler that I have noticed has always yes had a bomb of a shot, can play a physical game, can get sloppy at times with handling the puck and overall effort.

- Offseason groin injury
- New system
- New partner
- Sub 20 game sample size

His possession metrics are fine, and he hasn't looked terrible.

Lets re-visit this topic at the end of the season when we can objectively measure Garrisons performance.

Off season groin injury back in September is seriously being used an excuse? Yea not buying that.

New partner doesn't mean anything when he keeps getting embarrassed in 1 on 1 situations. Not bringing the offense like he's suppose to so people change their minds and call him a defensive defenseman. Yea he can't play defense all that well either it seems...

There was talk of him missing the start of the season...
This means he misses an entire summer of training, and practice.

I would call that a pretty good excuse.

And having a different partner/system is a big adjustment. Look at Ballards learning curve, Alberts learning curve.

As for his defensive game, by no means has he been our best defensive player, but his possession numbers are fine.

Give it a bigger sample than 20 games

Nope the groin injury was reported back in September and I posted a link to it in this thread earlier when it was started. Doesn't give him an excuse as he still would of had ample time to prepare for the season that started JAN 19th 4 months from september.

Taken off IR December 18th

So cram months worth of training into a 1 month window

1 month is plenty especially since he already had trained prior to his groin injury. Just because he has a groin injury doesn't mean they lay off workouts completely. Just another lame duck excuse

When i was 14 our coaches in Winnipeg would kick our a** if we didnt put guys on their rears in front of the net. Garrison seems incapable of getting nasty in front of his net. too bad, he's big enough, so far appears to be softer than Sami Salo.
