I have to say that I was actually surprised last night when his one-timer on the feed from Hamhuis didn't go in. I'd call it a pretty good sign when you start expecting someone to score, rather than hoping he will...

Orland Kurtenbach and Dennis Kearns had just been torched 8-1 by the Habs, but they still took time to come out to meet us, some fellow BC boys who were playing hockey in Montreal. THAT"S what being a Canuck is!

He isn't far off his pace of last year's goal total, give him some leeway to learn a new system, and a more defensively minded conference and I say he is doing pretty good.... Just don't compare him to what Salo is doing... he is not Salo - no doubt the Canucks would have loved to have kept Salo just not at the price TB was offerining and I am happy for Salo that another team recognized what he brings to the table and was able to shell out the $$$s to get him to leave a place he was happy in for so long.

He's been good, and improving steadily. The blueline as a whole hasn't really meshed yet but Garrison's been as good as anyone. His shot is really good and I'd like to see him on the #1 powerplay, he has that knack for getting shots on net that creates chances for other guys off rebounds and tips.

I agree. I strongly think it should be Edler and him on the point for the top PP unit. Edler just needs to utilize him and give him some one timer passes. I wish Garisson maybe played a little meaner, but all in all I think he was a great addition to our team.

He was a calming influence, I will give Salo that.

As to hitting the net:

Salo has 2 goals on 27 shots, 7.4 shooting percentage in 24 games.

Garrison has 4 goals on 42 shots. 9.5% shooting percentage in 25 games.

regards,
G.

Shot % is based on shots that hit the net. Garrison has missed the net with 30 shots, while Salo has missed only 11.

Not really a telling stat. Often times, defensemen just have to throw it towards the net and it'll end up in the corner or something.

People don't really understand that good defensemen (like Garrison) don't come cheap. For example, you can have Garrison and then re-sign Raymond and maybe Laps too, or you can have Weber who will eat up over 7 million for years and ditch the other two. You gotta grab the good ones (at a discount) when they come. Teams often tend to keep their defensemen so you pick up the best one when you can.

Garrison has 4 goals in 26 games.
Sooo lets do some simple math. 4/26= 0.154 x 82 (games) = 12.63 Goals if it were to be a full season...

So 13 goals is not to far off pace of what he had last year.
Not to mention that he has the highest rated +/- for all Canuck Defense-man @ +9

The +9 is what really stands out for me!

Garrison is slowly adapting to the Canuck system, plus having a different partner, and switching sides every time Bowness has a bowel movement, or passes gas, even .. he will become a solid top 4 D-man by years end for us .. he is a very strong man .. I just wish he hit a bit more .. it would keep the opposing forwards a little more honest in our end ..

I love how many of you are praising Garrison. I've watched this guy play in wins and losses this season, and he just looks lost on the ice sometimes. I can't count the numerous times I've seen Garrison trip over his own feet or lose his man in the defensive zone.

MG signed Garrison to be the PP specialist. But thanks to the Canucks incompetent coaches AV and Brown who took him out of the PP units when he was not producing after only 5 to 6 games. How is it that Schroeder, who does not have a good shot at the point and is not exceptionally good at playmaking, is more eligible than Garrison at the point is beyond me? Playing a forward at the point will only increase the number of PP goals against and it won't help the scoring.

Garrison is a shooter at the point, not a very good passer. He scored 9 PP goals last year playing alongside Campbell who is good at setting him up for the one-timers during PP. Hamhuis is more of a passer than a shooter and he should be able to play the part of Campbell for the Canucks. Right now Edler and the PP is struggling, Garrison should be promoted to the top unit to be the shoot-first point man. The Sedins are guilty of holding on the puck for too long looking for the perfect pass before they shoot. The Canucks need Garrison to shoot for the goal or rebounds to click star the slumping PP. At present, most of Garrison's shot are off target or blocked. He should work hard on getting more pucks to the net.

How does he have the highest +/- (D) on the team then?

I think he looked that way at the start of the season but the past 5 games he's been able to recover and is putting himself in better position. Give him ten more games and I think he'll be real sound positionally if he continues to progress at the same rate. So we shall see. I think he's played great and his mobility has saved him from a lot of scoring chances against us.

Edler and Garrison play the exact same role. They should never be on the same pairing for anything.

In reality, we have d-men who can shoot, but none that can pass.

EDIT: Rather than working on his shot, I think Tanev should work on his passing instead. A good passing D-man is more important for a transition game, and equally as important as a good shooter on PP. Tanev is already good at making that first pass. If he perfects his passing game and improves his vision a bit, he could be a very good play-making defenseman. I think an Edler - Tanev pairing could pan out very well.

He's on pace to score 13 goals in an 82 game season - isn't getting much opportunity on the pp and doesn't have a single pp goal after 9 of his 16 last year were pp goals...

He's also on pace for a +28 season.

What a bust.

Nice to hear Garrison getting some positive comments from Nucks fans. He's been coming along nicely for some time now and will be continuing to adjust and improve his game. He's got a great shot and will be our goalies favourite Dman in the playoffs. I love how he keeps that net cleared.

I've definitely seen improvement for Garrison. Now, instead of Garrison and Edler playing horrible, it's just Edler. Good thing Tanev is covering his arse.

Garrison with a PP goal tonight, his 5th goal on the year.

32GP 5G 3A = 8 points +9.....0.25 points per game pace

Over an 82 game season he is on pace for...

82GP 13G 8A = 21 points +23..... averaging 21:25 TOI

To reach his scoring level of last year's 33 points he would need to average 0.4 ppg, or 19 points on the season.
At last year's pace he would have 13 points up to the 32 games mark, meaning he is 5 points behind that target.

Garrison Magic Number: 11

What a great signing.

I knew he would rebound after the bad start. I recall KoES criticizing the contract and Garrison non-stop, but now we can definetly agree it was a great move.

Not convinced with the signing yet; in my opinion, he should be making about 1M less per year. Definitely not worth anything near 4.6M for 6 years that's for sure. He's not a very good skater nor does he have much hockey sense. On the positive, he's ok defensively and has a good shot (albeit not very accurate). Only time will tell, but I don't think he will live up to the contract.

Him and Hamhuis look really solid together. He's a good skater for a big guy, has decent hands and man o man that shot. Once he gets the accuracy dialed look out. Doing well on his off side as well. I think alot of that has to do with Hamhuis being a good partner as well.

No preseason plus adjusting to a new system explains the slow start. The dude has a rocket. I hope the coach stops defying logic and actually keeps him on the first unit.
