I think he's a decent D-man overall and his skating ability doesn't really seem to hinder his play at all.

I just wish he'd get better at keeping the puck low on his one timers and hit the net more consistently. Some of these guys need to figure out that they don't need 100+ mph wild bombs, that no one knows where they're going, when there's traffic in front. An 85-90 mph low shot that actually hits the net will usually be better. Better chance to tip, less chance of hurting your own forwards, and any rebounds are more likely to stay in scoring areas. Save the hammers for when no one is in front and you're trying to beat the goalie clean while he's repositioning laterally.

I gotta say, he's been playing well as of late. I guess he just needed some time to adjust

Another solid game tonight .. he is working at getting his shot thru .. if he blasts the first 2 or 3 shots, lanes seem to "open-up" later in the game .. the more time he has on our PP, the better he, and "It", will get IMO

I couldn't be happier about the signing of Jason Garrison especially after seeing this last stretch of great games he's played.

This guy is killing it all over the ice right now and has become our best all around defensemen.

AV's rewarding him with more ice time as well - he was leading all DMEN with 25+ today... normally its EDLER but I'm happy it was GARRISON!

Finally AV does something right...

Hammy and Garrison should be our minute leaders as defenders.

Garrison looks like he has finally adjusted.
I have to admit, I was concerned when I saw the first half of the season. Slow foot speed, lack oh hockey awareness, etc.

I think it was all just a byproduct of him learning the system.
He's still not fast by any means but in terms of hockey sense, he is showing it and has been very steady on the backend recently

If he can find a way to hit the net more on his shots and get it through the blockers, I would be VERY happy with his play

I'd say second best. His d-partner Hamhuis is still the best.

But I love the all BC pairing.

I think it's safe to say Florida and Vancouver play a different style of hockey. Garrison is doing a good job so far given the new assignment and having to find his way in a new system. He is not fast and he is not slow, but foot speed isn't his game so it's moot, I'm wondering what those who are unsatisfied with him expected? He wasn't going to come in and score 16 goals in 48 games.

He's better than he was, but still has some improvements to make IMO. If I'm honest I don't believe his hockey IQ is that great. He plays like a player that's been taught rather than natural ability?

My only complaint(s) is that Garrison often seems out of position and can't hold the offensive blue-line for the life of him...other than the odd turnover in the D zone he is definitely improving and he seems to be taking a lot more shots lately.

I used to be a huge critic of Bieksa, but watching the defense fall apart when he was injured made me change my opinion of him a little bit. I think he brings a lot of stuff that he does extremely well, but it's usually stuff we don't get to see.

I think he's an excellent leader, and the team really misses that when he's gone. I also think he has a calming presence on the blue-line, but not in the same way as Tanev for example. I think it's more because the team knows that he'll stand up for them if he has to. We don't see Bieksa fight much anymore, but he'll stand up for his team.

I think he's important, it's just too bad the mistakes he makes are usually incredibly poorly timed and glaring.

If you were talking about a few weeks ago, you'd be forgiven but the guy looks more solid than Tanev now. His acceleration seems to be much better the last few games. He can pinch a bit more then still be in position on the backcheck. He's carrying the puck out of the zone easily despite forecheckers and getting up on the rush. Tanev is still a gem, don't get me wrong, but Garrison is 35 lbs heavier and is playing more minutes against more challenging competition. Signing him as a UFA for 4.6 was a steal.

Let's not exaggerate things, Garrison was decent to start with, he's seen modest improvement, his role is increasing and he's getting more comfortable with the team and his place on it. He's playing well right now, a dependable guy on the blueline.

All I gotta say is he has the highest plus-minus on our team out of all six of our defensemen.

Oh yeah, and...

I saw Jason Garrison at a coffee shop this morning in Yaletown. I was going to ask him how Jannik Hansen's arm is doing but instead elected to just say what's up, giterdun and that he is playing very well.

Couldn't agree more.
Add the way he's firing his canon on PP - funny how I now expect someone to get hurt on every PP shot, after how many casualties he's had (unfortunately some of our folks too).

I agree, our record without him is quite poor. I also think that the refs listen to him. Kesler and Burrows have a bad reputation and the Sedins never really get the respect they deserve. Bieksa from what I notice has a good reputation on and off the ice.

On the subject of Garrison, love the signing. I think he may be having an influence somewhere else on the team, that being on Raymond. The two are pretty much best friends, and having close friends on the team can generally help motivate and mend confidence, that is what I think happened to MayRay this season. I think as long as Garrison is on the team, so should Raymond.

With Garrison moving to the right side and playing some outstanding shutdown with Hamhius, his versatility really adds balance to the lineup, leaving a pair of natural right side guys and a pair of natural left side guys to round out the top 6.
Just another reason why Garrison is such a great addition.

At the start of the year Jason Garrison had a issue with " hitting the net ". But now days being on the power play with the Sedins and getting them to set him up for the big blast at the point seems to be working. He's hitting the net like every time. It's nice to finally see the shot.

I am glad as well! Hoping he puts the Sedins over the top like Ehrhoff did.

I never understood the hate towards him. Our 2nd best D man for +/- is Barker and he is +2. Pathetic!!! Garrison is +11
