Garrison was brought in to fill Salo's skates. Now, what did Salo do for us? Well, he had a bomb of a shot and was quite solid defensively, not the fastest skater out there, but solid. The first how many games of the year Garrison was struggling, as were our entire D men. He isn't the fastest out there either, but I guarantee he is faster than Salo. His JaggarBomb from the point is getting more accurate and doing exactly what Salo's did, find the back of the net with apparent ease, I suspect it will be better than Salo as time goes on. One thing I notice about Garri is that he also isn't afraid to throw a good quick wrister on net, as we saw with his goal against Colorado. His +/- is great, he is super solid on D...

Overall I think Garrison has been our best D this year and his long term contract with a great cap hit just might very well turn out to be GMMG's best move yet.

Salo who? :towel: :towel:

Also, just when you see him get hurt at the end of a game a first thought is ruh roh, but he's still playing. Salo woulda been out fo sho;)

Garrisons bombs have also been breaking ankles out there, yikes, opposing players are learning the hard way, get in the way of one of his slappers and pay the price, its opened up more scoring chances and the Sedins are probably telling him keep the shots low and hard and we will take care of the rest, hahaha

They play Garrison on the 1st PP for 3 games. He starts hitting the net and scores a goal and like you said knocked 2 guys out with ankle shots. What happens in the Oilers game? It is back to Danny on the point and Garrison moved to the 2ndPP. Last night he is back on the 1st PP and Weise tips his shot. I don't get it.

Garrison is playing at Ballad's cap hit, not his. That said, nobody this year is really pulling their contracts, except maybe Schneider, Higgins and Hansen.

I am now loving this guy's play. That said, I wouldn't mind him upping his physicality a notch when we are in the playoffs.

I'm still not convinced myself. His play in his own end too often result in turn over. He passes to others who are under pressure, his work along the wall is not great. His shot ( when he decides to use it ) is great...assuming it's on net. He's still a job in progress

I honestly have no complaints. If he turns it over, it's just when he's trying to move it up along the wall. His play on the players along the wall is great. I think Tanguay had the puck last night in the corner and Garrison was all over him, you could barely see Tanguay. He's improved so much. LOL @ the people who were crying in the beginning of this thread. Nowhere to be seen now.

Garrison has improved quite a bit since the beginning of the season. I wish he'd throw the body a bit more because he can deliver a pretty sound hit. Overall, he and Hammer have been very solid.

He has really turned his game around and is much better defensively, strong with the puck, and isn't afraid to hit. Even though I'm not the biggest fan of his skating he is still able to keep up with speed of the game so hopefully he gets better and better as the season goes on.

I like how he pressures the puck, I don't like how all the Canucks D seem to set Tanev up to get squashed.
Garrisons mobility has improved since the start of the season, so thats good.

He could do more but Garrison is deceptively physical in his down low coverage and on the boards. He doesn't go for the big flashy hit unless he thinks he can separate the target from the puck, which is the smart thing to do. Huge hits are overrated if a player does it too much because they end up getting caught out of position.

He's been very solid for us. Big, Strong, great point shot, moves the puck well, and seems like he's well liked in the dressing room.

Very good signing my MG.

Honestly, people on here are so dang whiny.

Flashy hits are overrated? How about Brown's hit on Henrik? How about Rome's hit on Horton? Game changers. The Rome suspension was ridiculous and we all know it.

I wish Rome never threw that hit - that was what woke the sleeping bear... err Bruin. And yes, that suspension was garbage.

Back to Garrison, I too hope he turns up the physicality a notch (especially in the playoffs) kind of like Edler in the 2011 run with some of his big hits. That being said, it's easy to get caught "running around" looking for a hit so if he decides to do so come playoff time, he'll need to pick his spots. Regardless it'll be fun to see!

Garrison imo is like Hamhius, with a bigger shot.
Not the fastest guy but a good skater, not flashy - but recognized by people who pay closer attention to the game as one hell of a solid two way blueliner.
Garrison, like Hamhius, is extremely steady in his own end, very good awareness, always in position, decisive, moves the puck quickly, wins the majority of his puck battles...
He has gained a step as the season progesses and his chronic groin injury seems to have fully healed.
Not really surprised at all - he's exactly the player he was expected to be - the risks of his signing were greatly exaggerated on these boards.

Almost EVERYTHING is exaggerated on these boards... Most of the posters are school kids it seems thus the reason for panic and chaos that rules supreme here... Garrison is what I expected of him... Good solid defender with a boomer of a shot... Not flashy at all and I'm fine with that!!! I wished AV would keep him on the first unit PP though... I don't understand his refusal to do that!!!

This signing is starting to look good. Maybe was adjusting to the new linemates and new system. 4.6 million is not a bad signing for this guy, as the year he was a UFA, there were not much out there, and there will not be much out there this summer also for defencemens. This signing Jason Garrison at 4.6 is as good as it gets, considering what was out there in the summer of 2012 and 2013. He's starting to look solid for us. Hope he can continue to improve. Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

combine results.  Ehlers 5'11 162 lbs of solid rock.

Garrison keeps getting better. He has an incredible shot because it is not only incredibly hard, but he gets it off incredibly quickly. Now, put him on the first PP unit.
