Man claiming to be pastor leaves waiter note: ‘I give God 10%. Why do you get 18?’

By Dylan Stableford, Yahoo! News | The Sideshow – 9 hrs ago

http://news.yahoo.co...-155914258.html

A man claiming to be a pastor apparently tried to stiff a waiter on a tip, explaining that his work for God absolved him of having to leave one.

A photo of the receipt, posted to Reddit.com, shows a bill for $34.93 with an automatic 18 percent gratuity (or $6.29) added above a blank space for an additional tip.

"I give God 10%," the diner wrote on the receipt, scratching out the automatic tip. "Why do you get 18?" He then wrote "Pastor" above his signature, and an emphatic "0" where the additional tip would be. (The automatic gratuity, however, had already been added to the total.)

The Reddit user who submitted the image explained in the comments section that the receipt was part of a total bill for a party of 20, which is why the gratuity was automatically added.

“Parties up to eight ... may tip whatever they’d like, but larger parties receive an automatic gratuity," the server wrote. "It’s in the computer, it’s not something I do.”

The server added: “They had no problem with my service, and told me I was great. They just didn’t want to pay when the time came.”

Scribbling notes on receipts has become something of a trend. Earlier this month, the manager of a North Carolina Red Robin surprised an overdue pregnant woman by comping her meal.

“Once seated, a manager came up to us and started talking,” the woman's husband told Consumerist. “He was extremely friendly and jokingly asked my wife if this was her last meal before heading to the hospital."

When the check came, a note from the manager next to her portion of the bill read: "MOM 2 BEE GOOD LUC."

“It was a pleasant surprise and made my tired-of-being-pregnant wife a little more cheery," the man said.

Next time pastor comes in, let him know "God" will be his server -- after sitting there for an hour or so maybe he'll have an epiphany.

This is stupid. That said when the waiter already had an 18% tip to suggest that not leaving more on top of that is stiffing him is pretty ridiculous in its own right.

Well that will never happen because we all know god is just a silly excuse to do things... Like avoid tips.

If you like looking at statistics to determine who's better, you're just a casual fan.

2.41 season GAA isn't very impressive. Let's not get into playoffs and his SV%.

Cory Schneider is the next Patrick Roy.

Actually - Man leaves note on a receipt along with $0 (additional tip beyond the 18% gratuity already assessed).

I really don't understand why you would post this as important, clearly servers want more and more and more and more...

The Eleventh Commandment.

Thou shalt not leave a gratuity greater than 18%.

What a jackass. But he already got an 18% tip, so I don't see why this a story.

If there is an automatic tip applied and there has not been prior notice, I speak to whoever is in charge and have it removed - then I leave no tip. I then follow up with an email to the owner explaining what I have done.

I first politely ask it to be removed pointing out there was no prior notice or agreement and if there is hesitation, I tell him/her that I consider it fraud to add it to the bill without prior notice. If that does not work I then advise that I am refusing to pay the bill with the gratuity added and that i will be filing a complaint with Consumer Protection BC as it constitutes a deceptive practise. I have yet to have a restaurant not remove an automatic gratuity at that point.

Or kill your children, or set a fire, or be overtly racist, or condone slavery, or to justify incest, homophobia, bigotry, hate speech, other unconscionable actions...just say some magic words inside a temple or a church on sunday and you can do whatever the hell you want!

Yet the nonbelievers are the ones who are accused of immorality.

When was the last time dudeone posted an article of substance? It seems like now it's nothing but dreck and runoff from other news sources, and this one certainly isn't worthy of its own thread. Christians not behaving like Christians, whoop de doo, what else is new.

This kind of stuff is exactly Christians behaving like Christians. The main underlying problem with Christianity is that they believe that Jesus died on the cross absolving them of the consequences of sin. They realize that no one could possibly ever live exactly like it says to in their interpretation of the bible, so why bother trying? They're saved and therefore it doesn't matter how they act a belief and acceptence of Jesus absolves them of any wrongdoing.

I don't really want to get too into this here, but that's actually not true. The part of Christians believing in Jesus dying for their sins absolving them of going to hell is true. However, it does not completely absolve them from their sins. They are still judged for their sins, just at a different level.

Six of one half dozen of the other as far as I'm concerned. Since there's no such thing as sin, there's no such thing as absolution of sin. In this case...this award winner astonishingly (sarcasm) feels that his work spreading this controversial and unprovable doctrine or philosophy exempts him from paying gratuity on a meal like everyone else. That is STUNNINGLY arrogant and reflective of how a good number of "christians" at least in the United States, operate.

Funny, the 10% he is supposed to give to God is from his entire paycheck which he gets from his church goers.

Where as the 18% tip is for a small amount of food. What a dick. The waiter isn't asking for 18% of the guys paycheck.
