Six people stabbed in West End Vancouver apartment building

Vancouver police are now on scene at a West End apartment investigating a multiple stabbing.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says six people were sent to hospital with injuries, and one man is in custody following a stabbing in the 1200-block of Barclay Street. A seventh person was injured but did not need to go to hospital.

Early reports suggested at least five victims were attacked at 1263 Barclay St. Two are believed to be suffering from injuries to their throats, and another two with injuries to the chest.

One resident who spoke to The Province said she heard a man screaming from her seventh-floor window around the time of the alleged attack. When she looked out of her balcony, another resident called to her from their balcony and told her to stay inside.

“What I heard from the neighbours - and this is so horrible - is that someone was hit in the back of the head with a hammer and that they had been bleeding in the lobby,” she said. Police have yet to confirm the nature of the incident or if a weapon was used.

A suspect was taken into custody a short distance away from the building. Detectives from the Vancouver Police Major Crime Section and the Forensic Identification Unit have been called out and they will be at the scene throughout the night.

It's funny, all the usual gun shills show up as if to say, "see, people can kill people with things other than guns"... but as lillooet has already pointed out, if the attacker had been using a gun, all seven would be dead, rather than injured.

Maybe, maybe not, but a kitchen knife is to blades what a wimpy little .25 caliber pistol is to guns.

Nope. It just means that it's more likely and it can happen at a sicnificant distance...

Of course, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

The attacker is identified as Jeroe Bonneric,33, of Vancouver. He recently worked as a baker in New Westmister but has business law degree and a master in real estate, obtained in France.

I'll gladly take my chances with someone who is untrained, shooting a semi-auto from a "significant distance" than someone who is untrained standing close enough to slash my throat with a knife.

Yes, they can be within the right context.

A regular knife isn't likely to be in a rampage situation, unless the wielder is extremely well trained or the target is particularily vulnerable. Guys get stabbed dozens of times in prison all the time without dying.

However heavier medium sized bladed weapons will kill or maim in one or two whacks with minimal training, and yet are still portable and concealable enough that they could show up almost everywhere a knife could.

You kinda missed the point of the post you quoted.

Gun at significant distance = potentially deadly
Knife at significant distance = not even a threat at the moment
Gun within arms length = deadly
Knife within arms length = deadly

Mass shooting knife and hammer attack results in seven zero deaths in here Vancouver.

And yet another crazy furriner - from France no less.

Rallies are being considered to seek the control of knives and hammers and the banning of assault knives and assault hammers as well as limiting immigration from France.

Questions are also being asked why anyone needs a powered hammer with a 100 nail magazine capacity with the ability to fire 2 nails per second.

Posted Image

NKA (Canada) - our national knife association and the NHA (Canada) our national hammer association are opposed to any knife or hammer control legislation saying that knives or hammers do not kill injure, people wielding knives and hammers kill injure people.

Immigration Watch Canada is demanding to know how it is possible Bonneric was allowed to enter Canada when he is obviously a threat to the "peace, order and good government" of Canada.

Saw that when it first came out, great episode.

But significant distance was the key part. Straight from the video: "Here we have demonstrated that at close quarters the knife is a very respectable and to be feared opponent."

Close quarters, not at a distance.

Exactly how many feet is close distance? Again refer to distances in vid.

24 feet was the maximum they tested. Not gonna rewatch it again, but I believe it was about 15 feet (give or take a few) that was the death zone. But significant distance to me is more like 30-40 feet.

But why are we even talking about this? Its not a gun vs a knife. I'm saying that both knives and guns are deadly at close distances, while guns are the only one of the two that can kill multiple people quickly at a distance.
