GDT: Around the NHL Weekend Of February (02-03) 2013

Nick Bonino did something on Saturday that only 12 other players since 1999 have done:

Entering Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks forward Nick Bonino had scored just six goals in his 92 NHL games. He's not exactly a big-minute player, and even in the Ducks' 7-4 win he only logged just 10:22 of ice-time.

But he certainly made the most of it.

Bonino recorded his first career hat trick in the win despite playing the fifth fewest minutes on his team. That's efficient work, and his first two goals, which came in the first five minutes of the game, chased Conn Smythe winning goaltender Jonathan Quick from the game.

Let's look at it another way, since the start of the 1999 season Bonino is just the 12th player in the NHL to play fewer than 11 minutes and still record a hat trick in the same game.

He joins a list that includes Nikita Filatov, Taylor Pyatt, Zach Parise, Ian Laperriere, Harold Druken, Alex Burrows, Blake Geoffrion, Michael Nylander, Aleksey Morozov, Dave Scatchard, and Georges Laraque.
