MGR4B
With @darrenrovell talking about it on twitter today (and on ESPN2 tomorrow) I felt like it was a good time to start a discussion on the topic and more specifically how big of a problem it has become in Rogers Arena. I work 5 days a week in a hockey store and have the advantage of being around licensed Canucks jerseys all the time. Because of this I feel qualified enough to speak about the issue. I've been to 3 games so far this year and can say confidently that around 40-50% of the jerseys people wear in Rogers Arena are counterfeit. Once you see the difference between the two you can pick it up quite easily and you will start to realize just how many fakes there are out there. It's a complicated subject with many sides to it. Tickets are expensive, jerseys are expensive, a lot of people don't know what is a fake and what isn't, even canucks.com doesn't do a great job training the eye to what is a fake and what isn't. I found all of these attached pictures in under a minute, all counterfeit. What are your thoughts on counterfeits? Have you ever bought one knowingly or unknowingly? I think the solution could be to offer a grace period of 30 days where you can turn in your fake jersey for some sort of discount on a replacement and licensed jersey. After the 30 days anyone found wearing a counterfeit jersey inside of Rogers Arena will be asked to remove the jersey or be removed from the arena. After all it is illegal that these are being made, I'm not a legal expert by any means but you'd think they would be legally able to at least confiscate the item in question. Sorry about the length of the post, looking forward to hearing your responses. Also feel free to post your jersey if you're unsure about it's authenticity. My Account
I dont think there is an epidemic, I own a counterfeit jersey and although I would much rather buy a real one it is just not in my budget to get one and i still would like to show my teams colours
RyanKeslord17
Yeah, some people just can't afford to buy real jerseys. Would you rather see people with team colours or nothing at all?
The Vancouver Connection
lol there are bigger problems out there.
Markus Alexander Cody
I hate hate hate HATE people who wear counterfeit jerseys. Honestly, what's the point? You're trying to show your team's colors and that you're a Canucks fan? GO buy one of their t-shirts. Its probably a bit more than what you paid for your jersey but you're showing your team's colors by wearing a shirt or a hat. That is more credible than wearing a counterfeit jersey. I get that it's not within your budget but honestly, the best way to cheaply support your team is by either buying a hat or wearing a t-shirt. Simple as that. Spotted Zebra
enough people show up at Rogers without canuck gear on. Buy a shirt or scarf or something, and enjoy the game, but don't bother with a fake jersey, a old t shirt is better than a fake jersey. Ya it's what $150 for a jersey? You don't need one every year, I bought mine when the new jersey first came out and I haven't had to buy one since, it's an investment in a way

logic
I get a new jersey each year, but that's just me. If you're going to get a canucks jersey, please, please buy a real one. It sickens me that people make money off someone else's brand.

drdeath
It's only pushing 40% since the cup run and even then I'd say that's a bit of a stretch from what I've seen at the games this season. I do notice that 75% of fans visiting fans tend to be in fakes for whatever reason. The fakes that rustle my jimmies are the third jerseys that have the stick-in-rink logo as it was on the original 1970s jerseys instead of the new stylized version that's actually in use. Raffi Torres's Smirk
Maybe you can tell us more about how to spot for counterfeits? I just bought a jersey, pic below. Just from photos are you able to tell if its authentic?
