The Counterfeit Jersey Epidemic

If they didn't rob people for the real ones there wouldn't be a market for the counterfeit ones. To be honest I think the nucks are pulling in all the $$$ and more they need hardly feel sorry for them or that some small store in china town is making money off the backs of the Canucks. I don't own a counterfit one but I also don't see a problem with someone who will not pay $300 for a jersey that costs $20 to make but still wants to show they are a Canucks fan buying one.

I bought a conterfeit jersey online for 39 bux and Ill do it again and again. The real scam is charging loyal fans $200 - $400 for a jersey. Why do we have to pay so much? So the multi millionaire owners and players can make more money? Especially after both sides fought while fans had to wait for them to scrap over our money to watch hockey. It probablu only costs them like 15 bux and the rest is mark up. I love hockey and the Canucks but will watch the games for free on tv and if I buy jerseys, Ill buy them as conterfeits. I cant see or tell the difference and Its good enough for me.

I'm laughing my ass off here listening to the whole "it's 300 dollar" crap.

You can get replica jerseys for 99 dollars on sale at SportChek, and 129-149 when not. Sure, the real, authentic ones (are 399 and 420, I believe actually), but who needs to buy the actual jersey the players are wearing? Those are expensive, not the replicas.

But supporting counterfeit dealers? Terrible. Why not just save the 20 dollars a month you spend on fast food / lotto / cigarettes, and save that money for 7-8ish months for a jersey instead. As said earlier, it's an investment to support your team.

Well they already had the 3-game 50% off sale, and in that case you've really got no budget excuse to hide under, so at least it shoots the number of counterfeits down a bit but it's still noticeable enough. And really, the best thing you can really hope for here is Markus Alexander Cody's suggestion for showing team spirit. Personally, I shrug off the notion of a counterfeit jersey because of how hard the producers are trying each year to make them look like the authentic replicas (like, why are there even fighting straps on that thing???), you can only really laugh at the end.

I have home Luongo and Higgins authentic replicas from 2008 and 2011, both signed recently at the UBC practices and it's just so worth it. Then there's that argument in itself, you hand the player you're rooting for a fake jersey to sign and he's probably making an awkward situation out of it with you...

I think the bottomline is that if you are constraint by budget issues, make a situation out of it: you're spending a good chunk of money on a product that will last you for a long, long time and you won't really have to worry about it as much as you do for a counterfeit.

Fake jerseys make me cringe. I got my favourite Lu jersey about 5 years ago. Spent $100 and it's in pristine condition .Aside from some beer spills, tear stains from playoff exits, and I dropped pizza on it once because they scored while I was eating. Can't wash it though! Signed by half the team!

ps. BlueLine has 50% off all their jerseys every year on boxing day.

What a terrific and typically Canuck thing to do; charge the highest ticket price in the league, ban people from bringing in decent cameras and then run around confiscating "illegal" jerseys that deprive the team of even more revenue. Brilliant! That'll show the fans how much the team regrets the lockout etc. and shows them just how much the team appreciates their being at the game. Next up: ban opposition team jerseys. If the patron refuses to remove his or her, say, Bruins jersey they get kicked out of the game. Maybe throw them down a stairwell or something. If someone is foolish enough to make a homemade jersey they could sue them for copyright infringement, perhaps for the full retail price of an "official" jersey. Think of the potential revenue streams. Sheesh.

I don't understand the argument that jerseys cost too much, tickets cost too much and the evil Canuck corporation makes too much money so everyone should be allowed to wear counterfeit jerseys. If you want to wear an opposing jersey (fake or real) go ahead. If you can't afford to buy a jersey that is licensed by the team then don't. Nobody has a gun to your head to wear a jersey if you're so tight for cash and for some reason spent all of your remaining money on Canucks tickets.

What is your stance on fake high end clothing? Is that ok to wear too because the company has too high of a margin on that product? Of course not. People in fake clothing look like cheap douchebaggy morons and so does every one of the idiots walking around in fake jerseys.
