Should the Canucks get rid of Mark Donnelly? I find him very boring and his voice seems to have lost an edge now that he's lost all his weight. I mean it's really good that he lost all that weight because he's probably healthier for doing so.

It's very "weak" when he tries to hit the high notes and it doesn't pump up the crowd at all anymore. His routine is also played out now, especially with the crowd at Rogers Arena and how quiet they are. We need someone that pumps up the entire building by sheer emotion like the dude from Chicago and the piano Organ. Someone that doesn't need the crowd gimmick of participating in the anthem to get people involved and pumped up.

Thoughts? I can't be the only one that has thought that Mark Donnelly isn't was good as he use to be.

We need a change when it's big games. Michael Buble or something!

The guy from Chicago is the only anthem singer that's better than Donnelly in my opinion.

Certainly going to be our #1 defensemen. Give him a couple more years to improve his game and he'll be our new and improved version of Matthias Ohlund in no time

Man that Chicago guy hypes up that crowd like no other, I love the hollering and cheering during the anthem.

Hell, I nearly turned into a blackhawks fan after watching that.

I'd take Mark Donnelly over Rene Rancourt.. I don't want our anthem singer doing the fist pumps after he sings the national anthems... Like for god's sake you're there to sing.

Yeah, right. Buble will give up his recording, touring and time with his hot South American wife to be the regular anthem singer for the Canucks...that's a giant step in the right direction for his career. Cameo yes, but regular??? You gotta be kidding me.

Just need to fatten him up again.

Maybe the Nucks can hire Kyle Wellwood's personal trainer to work with Mark.

I could care less who sings the anthem, to me it's just the thing you have to sit through till the game starts. Better question should we get rid of the anthem all together?

NOTHING, and I mean nothing, seems to pump up half of the people there. It's way too quiet no matter what happens.

That is an article on fat opera singers.

It's funny this thread came up, I was thinking he had lost some "richness" to his voice

So I googled, and that's what I found

Should the Canucks get rid of Mark Donnelly?

No

I wasn't aware it was a job requirement of the anthem singer to pump up the crowd. If it happens, great...but it's not their job to wind up the crowd for the game.

All kidding aside, his voice has changed since he's lost all the weight. And he can't hit that extra high note at the end like he used to. I like Mark, but I wouldn't mind it if he changed it up and sang the whole anthem once in a while. His holding up the microphone and having the crowd sing is cool, but it's not as special as it once was since he does it all the time. I wouldn't mind seeing him do it for only those huge games on the calendar you circle at the beginning of the year, plus the playoffs.

Gotta admit, Jim Cornelison singing that anthem while 20,000 fans are screaming gives me goose bumps every time.

Donnelly is still a great singer, but since he lost all that weight I have found that his singing hasn't been quite as good.

Cornelison is a pretty bad singer. He doesn't pump up the crowd in Chicago, they cheer the entire anthem because their showing their patriotism. It has nothing to do with Cornelison's vocal abilities. Donnelly is 10x the singer Cornelison is and the fact we sing our national anthem is not a gimmick, we are being patriotic. Or is that not allowed in Rogers Arena either?
