This whole thread is absurd . It's not up to Donnelly to pump up the crowd. He's a anthem singer. For anyone to say that he shouldn't be the singer is just down right idiotic.

Should the canucks get rid of the fans in the building? They don't seem to be pumping up the players much.

In all fairness, the atmosphere at playoff games is electric - you can't attribute the crowd's reaction to the anthem signer because they'd cheer at a kazoo or armpit sounds at a playoff game.

I like Mark Donelly's rendition and feel that he brings a touch of class to the deal. The fact that he does hand the mic over to the crowd makes sure they re participating even before the puck drops...I like it.

Eh, you're really not helping anything by simply responding with a one-line blanket statement. If you don't like a thread, just let it be and try to go find something a little more worthy of good discussion and then contribute -- the boards would be a much better place if we all did this when stumbling upon a topic we're not akin to.

And for something a little more on-topic (although not entirely), even though I'm going to get bashed for it: I'd like to see the Canucks drop the anthem all together; the war's over. The NHL certainly would not allow it, unfortunately, and I'm sure the Canucks wouldn't do it even if they could. The uproar by the public and media would likely be upsetting as well.

the war over political will and power is over between nations. the war for canadians to keep the game of hockey from becoming just another american cash machine is underway. if canadians loose thier identity in hockey, nothing will stop the endless bending to advertisers. who knows maybe a couple of new teams for hawaii. cause you know thats a hockey hotbed.[/quote>

It would appear so. This is the sort of nonsense we die-hard fans are having to put up with these days. No wonder Canucks fans as a whole are stuck with the stereotype others paint us with. Threads exactly like this one........ :picard:

Mark does a great job. And they do change it up so Im fine with it. I know Buble is a talented musician but I dont think he is massivley intense or would send chills. Its just pre game anthems as long as it is done right and respectful Im good. The hockey should provide the thrills.

So wait...you think Mark Donnelly doesn't pump up the crowd enough...so you suggest Michael Buble instead?

This is like saying Henrik doesn't pass the puck enough, we should trade him for Ovechkin.

I like Donnelly's singing, especially when he lets the crowd join in.

I like the voice of the Chicago guy, but absolutely hate the stupid noise the crowd makes along with it.

Keep Donnelly. I don't know why this is even being brought up.

Donnelly is fantastic, one of the best. Why would we get rid of him?
If anything, it's the crowd that sucks. Not our anthem singer.

Donnelly is one of the better anthem singers and is one of the only ones that actually let's the crowd sing. Problem is the type of people that go to games.Canucks are popular right now so lots of people are going that aren't neccesarily hockey fans but go because it is the "in" thing to do.
