There's a "world championship" for football every 4 years if that makes you happier. The U.S. wasn't allowed into the first 2 competitions, then when they were allowed, they obliterated every other country even with a requirement of players having to come from every college level, and couldn't currently be on a team, but also must be within 1 year from the last season they played.
