MG might not be even targeting a roster player, it could very well maybe Kuznetsov/Forsber or Wilson.

out team is preety deep once every one is healthy, and JS has not looked out of place in the 3rd line center role.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Raymond - Kesler - Booth
Higgins - Schroeder - Hansen
Weise - Lappiere - Kassian

If we're going for a top forward, it's gotta be Forsberg or Kuznetsov. Forget about Johansson. He's a good player, but I don't see potential star with him. We need an exciting player that gets fans out of their seats. That's what would make the deal a win for fans.

If we're going for a top defenseman, it's gotta be Carlsson or Alzner. Carlsson would more likely be a straight up deal, since he has alot of value.

So something like:

Forsberg or Kuznetsov and Alzner

or

Carlsson and Brouwer

Each deal would require us to add either a defenseman or a winger IMO.

While getting Carlson would be great, I don't see Washington agreeing to letting him go. With what the Capitols have under contract for next year, trading Carlson (or Alzner) for Luongo and Ballard (for example) doesn't really help them as much as Luongo for one of their lesser prospects (eg. Orlov).

But WTH, maybe Gillis can pull it off. :)

regards,
G.

People say nobody wants Raymond, but he would look really good in the southeast division. The west and the northeast are tight checking. Raymond would maybe get a new lease on life/career in the southeast. FLA, TMP, WSH, WNP would all be teams that could give him a good luck for the rest of the year and maybe next year. He also is very responsible defensively

Carlson doesn't really fit on our team right now, especially with Ballard and Tanev doing so well. We could always trade Ballard, but he is actually adding a lot to our team.
Alternatively we could flip Carlsson for Couturier

Carlson would be an amazing addition to our team. He's a 23 yr old right-handed Dman who is a good Dman now but has huge upside. If Gillis could get him I'd be over the moon happy.

Luongo and ballard for barber, Brouwer, poti, Forsberg

Nobody wants Poti, and Riley Barber may not ever make the NHL. I like Ballard this year- I like him a lot if his confidence grows and grows, we could have another real solid top 4 guy.

Not to mention the intagibles that never get discussed by all us armchair GMs
-he sticks up for his teammates on the ice especially
-his teammates love him -Bieksa said so on the radio- he said himself, Hamhuis and Ballard are the canucks "tribunal" and make all the decisions in terms of social gatherings, nick names, stuff for rookies etc...

Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Letang, and Carlson for Luongo, Schneider, Kassian, Ballard, and Raymond.

You heard it here first.

You forgot the 1st rounder. Clearly a big piece of the pie.

I know some people will say we should be looking for quality prospects here, but we're trying to follow the Detroit model, which is based on good drafting - NOT shipping off star players for unproven prospects.

I would like to comment that Detroit hasn't shipped stars for prospects because they are almost never sellers.

We ourselves have done some pretty profitable selling the past - like selling Linden for then an unproven Todd Bertuzzi (and McCabe).

Detroit's success over the last 7 years or so has a lot to do with a couple of unknown late round picks turning into superstars and holding in their possession one of the greatest hockey players of all time. Without these factors, nobody would be talking about any Detroit models.

And who on our team would that be?

Higgins? Brouwer is tougher and better defensively.

Hansen? Brouwer is tougher and better offensively.

Raymond? Hardly a solid third liner.

We really don't have what Brouwer brings to a third line, and we haven't had it since Torres left.

No one on our team can land 200 plus hits AND score close to 20 goals a year. He will make our middle 6 that much tougher to play against for the other team's D.

i think brouwer would be a sweet pickup.

could move raymond back to washington, as the east is more complementry to raymonds play.

and the above post is right... brouwer is a more effective player than all of hansen, higgins, raymond, weise, schroeder, lapierre, malhotra, ebbett, etc...

to get through the west, you need more of these kinds of players.

Does Johanssen even have a point this year to go with his app. -6 rating? And isn't Orlov out with a concussion or something?

Edit: -7

Some people need to understand that their are certain players both teams aren't going to trade i.e OV. Backstrom and Burrows.

Anyone can be traded, even those with no trade clauses (pending that players approval).
