If we are going to trade for Ovie, this would be the time. His trade value is at an all time low. He isn't worth half his contract the way he's playing right now.

Indeed. Unfortunately that doesn't cut his cap hit or salary paid in half. Until it does, or Washington is giving him away at half price (either in assets sent the other way, or they hang onto cap/salary), my answer is the same as above.

Obviously im dreaming.

But u dont think Ovechkin would thrive in a new market? He would come at a high price, thats why Edler and Schneider are included. He fits the younger and bigger model Gillis is going after. And judging by the criticism Edler gets around here (rightfully so, too many defensive lapses, personally i think hes overrated) Ballard would slot in where he does nicely.

AND ITS OVIE, how do u not like that lineup?

Do you want to take a 9 year $9+M gamble on that? (he actually makes $10M for most of the rest of his contract, but has a $9.5+M cap hit)

Do you want to give up that much on that gamble? (leaving us with the D you mention isn't that enticing)

And how do we fit under the cap next year? (we already have to cut $6M from our cap, this way we'd have to likely buy out Booth and Ballard, D just keeps getting worse)

I didnt take into consideration the cap drop. But Ovechkin isnt a gamble, hes still a star in this league dont kid yourself.

You're really only giving up an overrated defenseman and a young somewhat proven goalie.

Look, I love Ovi, he's an over the top, ugly, egotistical flashy russian, one of my top 3 favourite hockey stereotypes, just ahead of "slick and pesty francophone" and 2nd only to "hard-nosed Ontario kid."

Regardless, he will not be coming here. Do I think he would flourish here and actually be a good fit? yes. undoubtedly. The Sedins would give him more room and than he would know what to do with.

I think the price is right, minus one of Malhotra/Raymond, even with his production stalled. Something isn't right in Washington, and I don't think it is Ovi. Oates is awful.

I just don't see them moving the face of their franchise, even with the slump, and even if they would, I would want Carlsson coming back in the trade, and that is definitely not about to happen.

I agree, this would be the definition of buying low. It takes guts to do, but he has potential to be the top player in the league and when you can get him for a minimal cost, you do it.

Ovechkin, Neuvirth, Schultz for Schneider, Booth, Ballard and 2014 conditional draft pick (ranging from first to third round based on the amount of points Ovechkin gets in the 2013/2014 season)
