Out-shot Edmonton 40-25

"Shows signs of weakness in victory"

I guess King didn't watch the 2nd and 3rd periods last night.

I watched the game. Do you really think the Canucks played great? Did they look like a powerhouse to you?

I doubt that.

Yeah I thought we came out unprepared as we usually do (Thanks AV), but as the game went along we carried the play, EDM's 2nd goal came against the flow of play. 5 on 5 we were clearly the better team and we outplayed Edmonton in the 3rd and Overtime.

I'm not sure why you're saying that. They're 2-3-2 and looked very good in OT losses to us and Chicago. They've didn't have Hudler or Cervenka for the first 3 games. Kiprusoff has not played well.

Calgary's actions over the last year or two suggest that they're not really interested in an Edmonton-style rebuild.

2-3-2 is horrible, I'm not sure why you opted to post that. I wasn't suggesting an EDM style rebuild, or PIT before that; rather I assumed a rebuild similar to the Flyers, that being trading useful veteran players, preferably in their late 20s, for young sure-fire NHLers. Trading their roster players for anything beyond the first round would be counter intuitive, that's why I wondered if they had pieces that could get them 1st rounders or developed prospects.

Um, no. Merely making a point as a guy who watches a lot of hockey.

The reality is that the Flames have looked good in defeat.

the Flames could look like Victoria Secret models, but they are still last in the west. You MUST be a flames fan to say something like "they aren't as bad as people think"

Looking more and more like the Flames should have dealt Iginla at last year's deadline. I don't know if they'll be able to fetch enough for him to expedite a rebuild. I do like that the Flames have some young talent coming up in Backlund, Horak and Baertschi but this year is clearly a write off. The question is, what current assets do they have that could be dealt to start a rebuild ... Iginla? Glencross? Cammalleri? none of which are particularly attractive, at the deadline or otherwise.

I think if management decides to pull the trigger on a full rebuild the combination of Kipper, Iggy, Glencross, Cammalleri, Wideman, and Bouwmeester (especially with the high demand for defense) could bring the flames into the draft with as many as 5 first round draft picks.

Even if 3-4 of those are 20-30 picks, it still gives the team a lot of options going forward. Not to mention if any prospects come back in those trades.

Or the little detail that in the Chicago Calgary game you speak so highly of, the Blackhawks were just finishing up 3 games in 4 nights ON THE ROAD. Even the biggest flame fan would agree that Chicago was very tired looking. ;)

Oh, my bad. That explains why they aren't dominating the league atm :P

So in the next week they play CBJ, Van, Min and Dal...if they get more then 1 win without Kipper, they will be incredibly lucky.

They just convincingly beat Detroit, after a game at home versus Chicago where they outshot them 47-19. Emery putting on the performance of his life is the only way that Chicago got that game to OT, where they ended up winning in a SO.

In complete opposite fashion to us, the Flames are showing signs of strength in defeat, whereas we're (IMO) showing signs of weakness in victory.

Are you kidding me?

Detroit's doing so poorly this season, this post proves that you have no hockey legitimacy in your writings.

9 points in 9 games is a bad stat! 0.500 hockey for a team like the Red Wings... yeah that's poor, son. Just like your hockey IQ.

I find it kind of funny King made that thread saying we will miss the playoffs and that Calgary would win the division.

Then we come out and play better with 2 of our top 6 forwards gone than they do regularly.

I'm not saying that they're better without Kipper, although he has not been good at all this year. I'm saying that they've showed signs of strength in defeat, against Chicago and even against us (they were clearly the better team for the final two periods).

They're certainly not as bad as people think they are.

yes yes they are as bad as people think here are some stats since you love to look at them

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/standings/

-5 goal differential now without kipprusoff will take a big hit

sure they beat the red wings which even with a 4-4-1 record don't look that dangerous compared to other years

the game against chicago yes they outshot them badly but they had a 2-1 lead with 30 seconds left in the third and couldn't hold a lead against a tired team so again yes they are as bad as people think in fact without kipprusoff their worse

According to KotES, that team in the red and white also sucked. Tied it up with only 1 minute to go. Even worse than the Bieksa goal vs Edmonton.

What a bunch of choke artists, amirite?
