A defensive specialist? wtf are you talking about? pre-injury yes? but now? I realise he is not the same player anymore, but he cant even do the simplest things anymore. like passing, stick handling, shooting.....

For a "defensive specialist" he was -11 last year and so far -2 and ONE SHOT on goal this year. Thats almost John Scott bad.

Manny's playing pretty well considering he's playing with Volpatti and Weise, 2 guys who are always looking for the big check. That's their role on this team and I don't want them to change their game, but it leaves them out of position when we're in our own zone. He's not the player he once was. but there's plenty of worse 4th line centers in the NHL.

I think everything that can be said about Manny, good and bad, has been said in this thread. I agree with the school of thought, that he looks a step behind in most facets of the game.

When Kes comes back, we will know what the coaching staff thinks. I beleive we will see Manny as the odd man out when that happens.

I would rather have Schroeder centering the 3rd line and Max centering the 4th next year. More speed more versatility.

My feeling is Manny is done in Vancouver as a player at the end of this year. He can certainly find work at the NHL level next year, I have no doubt about that. But I don't think his fit is here anymore, again, as a player. Even at a significantly reduced salary. A'la BMO.

(No more Manny, Higgy and MayRay off to UFA = $6.5MM off the books next year)

This is the last year of his contract! WTF is wrong with you? Would you rather have some nobody play on our 4th line at league minimum, saving us no RELEVANT cap space, meanwhile pulling a dick move to get rid of a player who has had SO much influence on this team just because he, who is playing on the 4th line, can't put up points? As an FA, you realize losing him now would result in pro-rated salary reduction anyways?

He ALSO has the highest face-off percentage in the NHL, and has a minus 2 because of the players he plays against?

I'm not going to compare him to Linden.

Getting rid of Malhotra is a waste of time. He doesn't make noticeably terrible plays in our end, and I could care less about his offensive contribution.

Pull your head out of your hole, seriously, or is stuck from being too full of hot air?

God this thread is stupid...

I just dont see where he fits when everyone's healthy...

I dont see where lots fit to be honest..

Sedin sedin kesler booth kassian burrows raymond Higgins schroeder hansen lapierre volpatti (am i missing anyone?) are all better contributors to the team IMO. Behind Manny id have weise and ebbett.

I think Barker is better too, but didnt include him since he hasn't seen any time with the canucks yet.

So many forwards, i hope they dont send schroeder down, it would be great for his development to stay and i think he has looked good so far.

You would think some players may get moved..

He is not a useless player. Leads forwards in SH TOI by a fairly large margin and is a top faceoff guy in the league. In years past he started over 80% of the time in the defensive zone.

This year he has started in the offensive zone 31.6% of the time and finished in the offensive zone 59.5% of the time, 7th best on the team. That is an important stat for a 4th line. Manny's purpose is to win the faceoff in the defensive zone, get the puck into the offensive zone and change. It looks like he is doing that fairly well this year.

I don't expect to see him gone this season...but it will be very interesting to see what they do in the summer.. Unless he's willing to have a contract say at like 700k... anything more i wouldnt even entertain the thought. I know he is a good guy, team guy and very popular but its a business and you have to look to improve. Being a faceoff specialist only isn't enough...

The Canucks should just pay him to retire and give him a job at the coaching staff if he's that important to the team, cause quite frankly, he's a horrible player post injury.

The last game was a perfect example, the 4th line was non factor and guess who was centering it?

After he takes the faceoffs he has absolutely no clue what to do with the puck. He iced the puck a couple times last game when he could have easily passed to his wingers or bounced it at the walls.

He has no offensive awareness, cant carry the puck to the offensive zone, dump and chase is his speciality and he's not even good at forechecking. Losses almost every battle along the boards, cant pass or recieve passes, handles the puck like a granade, etc etc.

It will be intresting what the Canucks do with JS when everyone is healthy. To me, JS has shown enough to earn a spot on the 3rd line unless we get a player in return from the Luongo trade.

You cant really send Volpatti or Weise because they've done a good job providing energy to the lineup. So that leaves Malhotra, where does he fit exactly?

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows

Booth - Kesler - Kassian

Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen

Higgins - Lappiere - Wiese/Volpatti

Wow everyone is so offended. And your only defense for him is that he can win faceoffs and kill penalties. sorry but that is not the whole game of hockey. If you actually watch him during a game the entire shift he is completely clueless right after the faceoff. Anyone who denies this claim is blind or hasn't tried to watch him. He is so horrible i can't believe people defend him so easily as compared to raymond/ballard, etc. where everything they do is scrutinized. Give him a god dang coaching job I dont care but he is not good enough for this team. period. We could sign any journey man for 1 million and he would do the same amount that Malhotra does. But what we should actually do is move shroeder to the third line and lappy to the fourth as someone above mentioned. Think about it people! Do we really need him?

Malhorta isn't the same player as he was pre-injury, granted, but he shouldn't be let go or traded this year. He brings much needed character to the line-up, and while it's often hard to measure the worth of character, every Cup winning team has a good mix of it. His strengths aren't always as evident on the back of hockey cards, but he still brings a lot to his game.

the irony in this post is hilarious.

Malhotra fans throw his faceoff percentages at us like its the most important thing in hockey. Then we throw back stats at you guys and get mad.

And yes, i do watch the games and him in particular whenever he's on the ice.
