CanucksSayEh
He doesn't look good on PK at all. Hansen, Raymond, Weise and Higgy all look better. Wouldn't mind his drop in play so much if he actually hit someone, dude NEVER drops the shoulder, EVER. Loses puck battles everywhere outside of the faceoff circle. Spoosh
I remember when... During the season, the Rangers were interested in acquiring Vancouver Canucks forward Pavel Bure. It was reported that Canucks general manager Brian Burke had requested Malhotra to be involved in a trade that would have sent him along with Niklas Sundström, Dan Cloutier and the Rangers' first-round pick in the 1999 draft in exchange for Bure. However, Rangers general manager Neil Smith refused to include Malhotra and the deal never materialized. - Wikipedia
Raffi Torres's Smirk
When this happened I cheered so goddamn loud. He's the little engine that could (after his injury). If MG resigns him with a significant pay cut I'll be very happy.

Canuck Surfer
Go where and accomplish what? He has a no trade clause which we offered him. The new CBA says even if we dump him his cap hit sits on the books. Then think in human terms about what you are suggesting; dump a guy who got injured at work, and had done all rehabilitation possible to be a productive, if less spectacular but still valued employee. Nobody will ever want to come work for you? Didn't see an official thread or anything like that and it seemed like a popular enough idea such that its own thread should be created. I hope this offers an opportunity for a wide discussion. We need to keep an objective view and see the facts as they are: 1. Great player until awful eye injury. His decline in his play is obvious as he constantly fumbles pucks and is a virtual anchor with every line he ever plays with now. He was worth well over 2.5 before the eye injury, hes probably worth about five hundred thousand now, that figure being very generous. 2. 7 GP no goals no assists -2 plus.minus and a grand total of 1 shot. That tells the story. 3. He is a great leader, but the team as a whole is a lot maturer now and don't need a vet like Manny to keep them going anymore. They've grown accustomed to playing without him. Gillis should've bought this guy out the second the new CBA was signed. Maybe even dangle him for a 7th round pick.... I understand this guy is a great team guy and all that yada yada yada, but his time has passed and he needs to let a young kid like schroeder get a full time center position on the 4th line once kesler comes back. Manny is costing this team and his cons definitely outweigh the pros. Just my opinion.
Canuck Surfer
Yup; and if u follow "possible trade" speculation; < and I know u dont like any stamp on trade speculation> The Canucks rejected a Kovalev trade for Pavel Bure because they would not include young prospect Manny Malhotra. And? In 1999, Malhotra was thought-of as a high-upside, 7th overall pick from 1998. In 1999, Vancouver also thought that Bryan Allen was going to be the next Chris Pronger, Josh Holden was about to set the NHL on fire, etc. Things change. ice orca
How about if work signs a guy to a 12-year contract, and then decides to change plans and go with another guy less than 3 years later. Does that have an effect on who will want to work for said organization?
Bananas
I think The Official Manny Malhotra Needs to go Thread needs to go. Aside from it being dumb, there aren't enough square brackets and asterisks in the thread title, and therefore has no merit.

Trebreh
Character guy who is there to win faceoffs and help out on the PK. Nobody ever thought he would be a goal scorer in our lineup. I would trade or bench Mason Raymond before Manny. just my 2 cents.
Trebreh
Ironically, that tells absolutely none of the story. Everyone knows Malhotra is not here to score, is not here to rack up shots and should not be expected to be on the plus side of +/-. With all due respect, his 13.2% offensive zone starts last year was the lowest percentage in the NHL last year (among players who played 3 or more games lol) - that combined with his obvious faceoff excellence, is pretty much the whole story. You will be hard pressed to find a single player in the NHL whose offensive zone finishes are nearly 30% higher than their starts. Judge him on that. Bananas
This is the last year of his contract! WTF is wrong with you? Would you rather have some nobody play on our 4th line at league minimum, saving us no RELEVANT cap space, meanwhile pulling a dick move to get rid of a player who has had SO much influence on this team just because he, who is playing on the 4th line, can't put up points? As an FA, you realize losing him now would result in pro-rated salary reduction anyways? He ALSO has the highest face-off percentage in the NHL, and has a minus 2 because of the players he plays against? I'm not going to compare him to Linden. Getting rid of Malhotra is a waste of time. He doesn't make noticeably terrible plays in our end, and I could care less about his offensive contribution. Pull your head out of your hole, seriously, or is stuck from being too full of hot air? God this thread is stupid...
Bananas
And you dont wonder why that is? BECAUSE HE HAS HANDS OF STONE. He's practically useless after he takes the faceoff 5 on 5.

Trebreh
BECAUSE HE'S A DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST, not to mention if we wanted to score, we'd put out Sedins or Kesler, or whatever our 3rd line is at the time... Malhotra is not there for scoring, yes because he's not very good at it. However, everybody knows this, and still recognize that he is a good part of a team.
